Backup Software

Hey guys,

Just wanting to hear your thoughts on what backup solutions you've found to be good for Windows Servers (backing up user game saves/files) as we know, they can be very big in size. I've played around with R1Soft and the kind, but they only offer an exclusion based backup facility, rather than an include x file location.

I'd love to hear your thoughts/experience!

We personally run full R1Soft.

Though we do have an interesting setup of it, whereby user files are all kept on their own SSDs. So exclusion based works perfectly for us.

I'm kinda curious. Do you allow users to restore backups through TCAdmin?

Alrighty.

We're on Linux, so that's a whole other discussion, but we've been trying to create an easy way for clients to restore backups from specific dates - but that's not really that simple to implement in TCAdmin and Borg Backup :)

Have you tried making a symlink from the users game server root directory to wherever that game server backup is stored? This will allow you to show the backups in the script variable dropdown.

Not really possible when you're running R1Soft.

Since it's on a different system entirely and they don't store the files in a plain format :(

Hoping to speak to some developers soon to see if it's even possible.

Interesting, and by user files I take it you mean the specific users from /TCAFiles/Users, rather than as granular as the actual specific map saves/data files from within each game server?

I'm currently stumped at how to implement an efficient way to back up user Ark save files without having to have up the whole 40GB+ game each time.

Happy to work with others to get a TCAdmin addition coded that works with R1Soft.

We backup the entire drives that house the TCAFiles/Users/ folders.

I personally don't know of any other sort of efficient way to do it. Though we run a backup server in each location usually running directly to the switch (so it doesn't cost data and has a direct connection).
