This is not in advertising because I am not selling either, just looking at them to possibly sell them and would be interested to see feedback on both.

 

Ive been told the harpertowns just blow clovertowns out of the water because of the huge L2 cache, but I have not confirmed that.

What if the Q6600 was around 239 ? Does that change the scale in favor of the Q6600? I like the harpertown because its true serverclass

I would get the harpertown. But the prices for both are high. I get my rented c2q for 200 a month.

The offer I am thinking of rolling out is that harper town w/ 4gb of ram for 289.

 

That and offer for 309/month you own the server after 24 months

 

I really want to see a benchmark on the 5405s, ive heard that L2 cache upgrade makes a huge huge difference. Monk will be able to tell me more I am sure.

We've just ordered some Harpertowns for testing ourselves, but from the looks of it, they'll be a nice up on the Clovertowns, especially in terms of power consumption (25% less I believe).

 

But as for the comparison - I'd say Xeons for sure - GG c2q.

I can't wait to see what these new processors are capable of.

 

Their clock speeds also go much faster, and with a FSB as fast as a low end Clovertown it does make one ponder...

We've not seen any major improvements in performance on our test box. Roughly 10% in real world performance increase.

Higher FSB on Intel doesn't really do anything for performance because of pipeline depth, bus latency, etc etc..

 

Some of the hapertowns have bugs where the TSC register stops incrementing..
