1000fps kiddies

Well, I guess it's the new things for these kids to sell. I thought veeservers was bad enough, but now I just saw a kid advertising 1000fps for $25/month. It's just sick how they're ruining the market, all these kids are expecting 1000fps for cheap, yet these servers are absolute SHIT.

I feel bad for those who actually sell true 1000fps servers. Even though I don't sell them, it's also affecting me. Kids are now expecting all servers to be 1000fps with the notion that it will always register better if it's rated 1000fps. I can't imagine that these servers that are sold for <$60/month could even hold above 700fps with activity. I can't count how many times these kids go "what?", when I tell them that 500fps is highest we offer.

UGGGGHHH, my rant for the month.

We still only sell 500 FPS aswell, but have a few machines that offer 1000 FPS, normally I allow them to test both, and give them the price difference, 99 times out of 100 they buy the 500 FPS.

Screw 1000FPS. :)

I'll stay in the barrel with you

When kids sell 100 tick servers, it amuses me. 100 tick isn't a multiple of 33. When a server is running at 100hz, then it generates rounding errors on some of the ticks. Kids don't know this and they think just because it's 100 its better than 99.

Sorry if I didn't understand tickrate right....but isn't FPS affected by the hz not the tickrate? I was pretty sure that tickrate was the number of times the server "ticks" per second. I was not aware that frequency effected that? Please correct me/teach me the right thing Monk :)

sorry. In lamens terms I said "hz", in terms to CS:S's tickrate; ie; tickrate = hz. Not the system interrupt frequency. when i was working on osp i used the term "hz" to define the server's fps frequency (sv_fps), so it's a bad habit.

As for the FPS.. the FPS counter measures sleep() latency. On windows 2003 (SMP HAL) it's about 1.95 (+/- 0.15). ie; 1000 / 1.95 = 512FPS or so. This is with some program to adjust the system hz to about 1024.
