impulseg
I keep my paging file very small. I'm curious as to what the consensus is. I've considered just shutting it off completely. Anyone have an opinion on the size of the paging file? I currently allocate around 256 mb per GB/RAM to the paging file, although I've never reached the point of exceeding the available RAM. Monk
You will always need to page to disk. Personally, if you don't have alot of memory windows will swap most of it's core to disk. AND, if you have IDE drives, you can only have one cocurrent write to disk at a time, which is a killer if you have to play a game. 2/1 ratio for paging size/memory size
nhouck
If you have enough RAM (6+ GB is a good starting point but you could have less if you don't run much apps) you don't have to have a paging file. I've run without one to see if I could notice any performance increase, but I didn't. Unless your drives are old/slow/overfilled/fragmented you shouldn't have a problem leaving paging file on.
