RackGaming
Does any one know if 2x Intel Xeon DP Quad-Core E5410 2.33GHz Processor - 1333MHz FSB - 12MB L2 - 771-pin ( 8 Cores ) will run 500+ FPS stable without dropping? I heard that Xeons are not able to keep FPS at the 500+ settings and drop. Sorry if its a bit of a sad question to ask but I prefer to look silly rather than not know
Monk
SMI interrupts are a latency killer on intel platforms. You can't truely have 500fps all the time, no matter who says it's possible; considering windows makes no guarantee about interrupt latency at all. Buying more CPU power doesn't mean you're going to have realtime latency in the order of a few uS. The hardware has to have good throughput with little chipset errata, and the OS has to provide a minimum latency.
nhouck
Monk is right. That said you can run a couple servers with good results, but you won't be getting a server full of game servers to run stable 500 fps. Mostly it depends on how many servers you got going, the more you run the more drops you will get. I run that exact setup you mentioned and we don't run 500 fps servers on it because they aren't stable after you add a bunch of other servers.
