RackGaming
Hey everyone, Just wondering if someone can give me some advice as I seem to be very confused. I have a HP Proliant DL160 G5. It has an Intel Xeon (E5405) Quad Core Processor (2GHZ) inside. I am wanting to insert a second one of these and have found one which I think is the right one. Now I know I need a PASSIVE cpu and not an ACTIVE one but if you look at the bottom of the page it says: "Miscellaneous Included Accessories 1U passive / 2U+ active combo" Now to me this simply means for 1u passive you simply remove the fan. however now I thought of something else and this is my question to you. Will the HeatSink be the same as the other (Will it fit DL160 G5 basically) The reason why i question buying this CPU is that I saw an official cpu for this exact server however the cost difference is an extra £60+ (£230) its called an "Option Kit" but I am like 90% sure that this is just another way of HP getting more money out of you so I thought this CPU I found would fit as it says it can be used as a 1U Passive CPU, Just dont know if heatsink will fit. Here is the URL: http://www.stuff-uk.net/?s=ST-BX80574E5405A Can anyone help me figure this out? Any assistance will be very much appreciated. jbiloh
You remove the fan from the heatsink and you're good to go. As to whether it will fit your specific machine, I'd say you won't have any problems. These things all comply to specific design rules.
