jcarney1987
Hi every one! Here in a month or 2 I might be build servers and colocating them with tcadmin installed. I can build good stable desktops but I'm really not sure what kind of server boards brands I should choose. But this is something what I am looking at getting Harper town processor asus server motherboard w/integrated graphics 16GB of Ram ECC Fully Buffered 2x 10/10/1000mb NIC 350-550 power supply since i'm hosting my server probably going to be up 24/7 except when no in use so the fan I'm not sure how many rpm I should get. I need fans that cool good but last long without failure. How long should I test a server before I colocate it? What are you opinions on building this server. What should I modify? Also I need a bandwidth monitor that can monitor each application.
kaosx
When it comes to servers its hard to say. If you want single processor MB'S just get a high end desktop board. Asus is the best. If you want dual cpu MB go for a tyan if you can you cant beat them As for ram i wouldnt go for more then 8 GIG if you are running Valve games If you are running COD4 and games like that then 16 GIG yah sure if you can afford it.. As for PSU 550 for x1 dual quad, x2 quad core 750 or more You net cards are great Thats my 2c worth
{-SMAKU-}_MotorMouth
With a single core CPU 16 gig's will be over kill 4 is about all you will need. We have dual quads and we only need 12GB in the box we host all COD series on. It still takes a lot of slots to use 12GB with the 2x CPUs. 2 771's only need 280-350 watts. {-SMAKU-}_MotorMouth
A barebones will be best to get you going. All you will need to do is drop in the RAM, CPUs and HDD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2012710008+1076108920+1076222532&Configurator=&Subcategory=8&description=&Ntk=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=
Creed3020
Do you plan on turning this server off when you aren't using it, is there a reason you are thinking about this? As for fans purchase a barebones and everything should already be there. If not you can always purchased additional fans.
