Is This Possible?

Hey Guys,

Say I have Call of Duty 4 or WAW Version 1.7 installed on a clients account, Is it possible to "Revert" back to Version 1.0 WITHOUT having to reinstall the server?

Reason I ask is because I just downloaded the huge list of UKGames config files which they posted for the community, Looking inside the updates section I see ALL versions 1.0 to 1.7. For 1.0 in the description it says:

"1.0 Stock Original

This will Revert your CODWaW game server to the 1.0 Original"

1.0.zip

My aim is to have ALL versions available to clients so that they can choose a version they want to play on the fly without requesting support to do manual file transfers etc.

However I do NOT want to have to replicate the GameInstalls folder for COD4 many times over each holding a different version of the game as this would reduce my HDDs space BIG Time! Just curious as to how UKGame are doing it.

Thanks Guys!

Reverting game versions can be tricky because different files are changed or added in different versions.

One way you can sorta make this happen is to have your default install be the 1.0 version and have the upgrades have the full game at the other versions. Although, when you change the version again it might leave files in there from the previous version.

But then again, if you are overwriting the dlls and exes for the game, those extra files might not cause any harm. In this case, you can simply place the original patch files in the folder, no matter what version it currently is, and the game will become that version. You should do some testing and see if this is the case. Or maybe someone here has already tried this and they can provide some insight.

I have done that for cod2, i got 1.3 as default but made a patch in game mods to reverse to 1.0 giving some instructions like "after patching, stop your server and delete the following files"

altho I didnt try something but that could work :

create new .txt empty files, rename them to the same name as files from 1.3 and include them in the 1.0 patch so basically it overwrites the 1.3 files I want to "delete" with 0 byte files.

Sry if thats not clear but this could work.
