Dual i7 server

Anyone using dual i7 servers? I need some feedback on their performance.

It was my understanding that the i7 used the 1366 socket and could be used on the 5500 series motherboards

Typically desktop CPUs have their silicon locked to stop endusers from attempting just that. Profit motive by Intel/AMD.

I found a dual 1366 socket mother board that states it will work with any 1366 socket CPU.

Check this out: http://download.intel.com/design/processor/datashts/320834.pdf. I would suggest against spending the money to try a Dual CPU i7 configuration. Restrictions like a mentioned above are always CPU/Silicon based, not BIOS/Board based.

 

Instead go with 2 Nehalems and lose the risk.
