I have had a customer request this mod to be installed on his server to help prevent rcon hacks for cod4.

it reminds me of the punk buster tool pbsetup where you have to add the instances of the game to the program. I did some quick research and the site looks kind of shady and I do not see any forums on the site nor do I see anything posted here in these forums about it. Is anyone running this on their servers, and have they setup tcadmin to run this as a service?

note to self -- You typically don't sleep with a woman you have no clue where shes been -- This is also true for software, if you cannot determine its security, its reliability, and where/who its come from --- send it to the curb without any french fries!

 

I typically utilize a small VPS/cloud server that I can reload easily to test scripts/executables that "appear" to be "legit" but yet are new/beta/unexplored like this. Run them through a bunch of av, scanners, and "secret recipe" tests with no worries of failure. Once it meets my satisfaction for reliability, customer support relations, and security then I have no problem using it.....Prior to that, the answer is "no" This can sometimes result in the loss of the client, however that is a minimal price to pay vs the steps that would need to be taken should a breach happen.

use the pb web admin tool. If the rcon gets flooded the web admins is still available.

I'd be very carefull about unofficial patches unless, they can easily contian undesirable results including handing over your entire business to someone else.

 

You have to ask what's the motivation, where do the funds come from to support the site?

 

Not saying he or any other specific person is bad, just that there are those that are bad and use the fear of a compremised system to get you to open the door wide and usher the compremise in. You are generally better off sticking with the developers patches or using a legit bussiness that screens unofficial patches instead of just asking "have you used this"

 

Just becuase someone has used an unofficial patch and is still sitting pretty doesn't mean that source is safe, just means they haven't been hurt yet!

If aluigi didn't provide the proof of concepts, someone else would, who might do it in a less public and more destructive manor.

 

Aluigi is very helpful to the gaming community, and has been for many years now.

yes cus he makes the exploits public and even releases some patches. If no1 was doing so you would just get hacked without having a single chance to ever find a solution.

You didnt mention your problem did u ?

I personally always figured out a way to prevent crashes until now, maybe ive been lucky but Ive been using tips and tools from luigi's website too.

I don't say that what's hes doing is wrong, what's wrong is posting those tools for kid's to download.

Witch fix do you actually use of this site for your gameservers?

 

I need one for the cod4 rcon hack problem, but don't know what is the fix on the Luigi Website.

 

Can anyone say whitch one is ?
