ERROR: Dedicated server authentication failure.

Im trying to get COD : World at War running on my server. Keep getting this stupid message.

 

ERROR: Dedicated server authentication failure.

 

 

Game has latest patches

Directx is up-to-date

COD4 servers are runing perfectly

 

Tried redoing the game files and re-uploading to server.

 

I just cant figure whats causing it not to authenticate.

Ive scoured the net and cant find a definitive answer.

 

Can anyone help?

punkbuster! make sure its up to date, make sure its not corrupt anywhere, make sure its installed in the correct directory/path.

checked punkbuster and tried starting...failed

You need to make sure you have ALL dx .dll files installed. WAW uses files that COD4 does not. I forgot the exact .dll but that was my issue.

I did read about that and downloaded 2 files and pu them in the root of cod5 install. Hopefully is right place, but tried starting server and same problem.

after checking windows os configs, i found the problem and have solved it. There was an entry in the windows hosts file that pointed to wrong server. soon as i deleted entry worked perfectly.
