DirectX issues - Server08 STD and CoD4

Hey guys,

 

Wondering if anyone has ever encounted a directx issue where when trying to launch call of duty 4 servers (so far the only game we have encountered this issue to) it just produces an error saying "DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error. See read me for possible solutions" and if so, any suggestions on how to fix it?

 

Have asked our provider but they have never seen the issue, and googling it only gives results from clashes with xfire etc on a personal computer, not server side.

 

Have tried updating directx - both steam's installer and from microsoft - both failed to fix

have tried reinstalling directx from the windows installation disc- no luck

 

 

Have tried just about everything I could think of, hopefully someone else has encountered a similar issue and actually managed to fix it here.

Did you install directx that came with Call of Duty?

Have you rebooted the system?

 

I deployed call of duty 4 on server 08 standard and enterprise a few days ago and didn't run into these issues.

Yeah, tried just about everything we could think of short of getting the dc to reinstall windows, hopefully someone has run into a similar problem, worst case scenario may call for a reinstall i guess

Try uninstalling the directx version that came with CoD4 and using the latest 9.0c from microsoft.
