So I run a bunch of game servers for my clan/friends/personal use. I have no intentions at all of selling/renting gaming servers for customers. I'm running CentOS 5.8 on a server I rent from a datacenter. Recently I've tried to install a Serious Sam 3 server on my box, but apparently I am running an outdated version of GLIBC on the box, version 2.5 to be exact. However, Serious Sam 3's server requires GLIBC 2.11 or higher; so I've looked/researched on how to updated/install the new version. My research, as well as others who have helped me, has concluded that GLIBC 2.5 is the highest I can run on CentOS 5.8. If I want at least version 2.11, I will need to install CentOS 6.x. While this is not necessarily a path I would like to go as a complete reinstall of my operating system would take a very long time to accomplish just to get back to where I am now with my current box.
Talking with a buddy of mine, he thinks that TCAdmin is my "problem solver" in not only getting SS3 installed and working on my server, but also allowing me to easily install other game servers.
Currently I'm running a few UT, L4D, CSS, and Killing Floor servers without issue. My only problem so far has been getting Serious Sam 3 to work. (Well, the only problem I haven't been able to solve. When Valve went to SteamCMD, I had issues with that as well not having the correct libraries needed to run but I was easily able to solve that problem.)
On to the problem I am facing with Serious Sam 3. This is the error I am greeted with when I attempt to start the game server.
./sam3_dedicatedserver: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by ./sam3_dedicatedserver)
./sam3_dedicatedserver: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.7' not found (required by ./sam3_dedicatedserver)
Any insight will be helpful.
