Daersun
Ok, so im the first to admit im a hardware n00b My last line of servers were dual xeon 3.2 800fsp 2gb ram We just bought a new line of servers that are Dual Xeon Dual Core 5130 (2.0ghz) 4gb ram fully buffered So my question is this. If I was to have gotten the 5110 (1.6ghz) chip, would 2 of the 5110s have been the same as a dual xeon 3.2? (1.6*2 = 3.2) So is my new dual core machine only 1.6 ghz faster (25% faster) or does the fact its dual core add even more capacity? Chew
the fact that it's a woodcrest core means alot as far as performance go. The woodcrest core is a beast and does more per clock cycle. we're currently looking to purchase the same setup you just got. May I ask where you purchased your server from and for how much? Thanks, Matt

Monk
Older xeon 3.2's don't have the extra XMM registers, therefor, I'd take a slower woodcrest over a older xeon any day..
ECF
Woodcrests seem to be quite a bit better than the older Xeons.
Defcon|Rich
Hold on to your $$ for a bit Jordan. The new Quadcore's are going to be decent from what I've seen..
Daersun
Price wise? We dont buy many more servers then we need. Right now I think I have 2 ready for deployment, so Im ok for another month or so.
