jbiloh
We're considering a new line of dedicated servers for our ColoCrossing operation - and I wanted to get your feedback! This is what we're thinking: Core2Duo - 2.4Ghz / 4MB L2 Cache (2 Cores) 2GB DDR2 5300 RAM 160GB SATA2 Hard Drive Windows 2003 Free (or any other O/S) 1000GB Bandwidth Available: Dallas Internap Chicago ServerCentral+ATT NYC Savvis/Sprint San Jose ATT/Savvis/L3 Priced at $199.95 / Month These machines easily out perform Dual Xeon Nocona 2.8's which sell for the same or more. The new chipsets use less power and perform wonderfully. Who would be interested at that price point?
kalyse
Pretty solid machine. Its a good tactic I think to give 2003 away free and just charge more on the server, then you make if people want Linux or something anyway. Whats the build price per server. Whats it costing you to construct?
jbiloh
The machines are pretty reasonable.. about $800/ea with shipping and applicable taxes, etc. Just trying to get an idea on demand for such machines.
ECF
I would add an option to bump the bandwidth up in blocks Jon. Say another 1000 gig for x amount. Or maybe offer 2000 gigs along with them. Some people may run BF games on them, which we know eat bandwidth like a fat kid eats cake
ntburchf
Sorry if I sound a little "behind the curve here" Are you leasing these servers, ? Just trying figure out what this is about? (What I'm getting at, right now I don't have the time to do a bunch of co-locations, messing with the boxes etc, etc). In a nut-shell, I don't have the time to screw around with the actual hardware or doing the "co-location" dance---- TB.
ECF
Since he put "Priced at $199.95 / Month", I would assume he is renting them out per month.
tonton
Some people may run BF games on them, which we know eat bandwidth like a fat kid eats cake LOL, fat kid eats cake. mmm cake, I just went to la Madelaine and bought a cake and I barely ate 20% of it (wasted $30). jbiloh
Yeah the price I quoted is rental per month. I'll draw up some pricing for larger BW commits. Would anyone be interested in renting some of these?
ntburchf
I might be interested in 1 in the east and 1 in the west- need to change it up a bit though or get more info Core2Duo - 2.4Ghz / 4MB L2 Cache (2 Cores) (who's) intel / amd 2GB DDR2 5300 RAM (4 gig ) 1000GB Bandwidth (would think at least 2g) (long as it do does not go over the price I'm paying for the dell 5130's woodcrest dual's with 8 gigs of 677 mem I have now
