Defcon|Rich
The Dual quad core, Dempsey and woodcrest series servers are all more then you will need. Any of them would work just fine. The difference between them is how many servers you can put on each box. Performance comparisons between the servers is not a factor. They will all run the same. The Coreduo's are single cpu servers in case you didn't know and are decent machines but considering one of our tcadmin masters running an update makes it fall on it's face I wouldn't really recommend them and definatly wouldn't put them in the same catagory as the woodcrest and others you mentioned. jbiloh
I've seen much worse Rich. Much love to the game server business. If you have the budget, Clovertown is the way to go.

studeggle
hl and hl2 make full use of dual quad core machines, I have several running and all cores are fairly evenly ballanced and I get a good number of games running.
