Console games dominated 2007

PC games accounted for only $910.7 million of the $8.85 billion generated by the video game industry in 2007—a puny 14%.

 

Probably only going to continue to get worse.

Why do you think the publishers like EA and others have put PC games on the back burner? They do not have to worry about patches, they just release a "new" version next year that mommy and daddy will plop another $59.95 down on to keep junior happy.

There are few reasons why game devs like consoles. The main ones are

 

1) A lot less pirated copies get distributed

2) Consistency. You know that an XBOX 360 will all have the same processor and graphics chip. With a PC, think about how many different GPUs, CPUs and motherboards they have out there.

3) Support is not as much of a headache for consoles games.

Piracy is just an excuse in my opinion.

 

Scenario 1:

 

The person downloads it because its free and would never buy it anyway.

 

Scenario 2:

 

The person wants to test out the game before they buy instead of throwing away £40 ($80) should they never play it.

 

PC games really arnt promoted very much, I cant remember the last time I saw a PC game advertised off the internet. And most are just ports from the console which is very sad really.
