More evidence PC gaming is dieing

Madden NFL 09 will not be appearing on the PC.

“We are committed to shipping a limited number of our games on the PC this year, but we’ve also had to cut a few of our games from the platform.”

There is no word yet on whether or not EA Sports’ other franchises, particularly those that are far less popular than Madden, will hit the PC for the 09 series.

PC gaming is most certainly not dieing. There is a natural, and needed market consilidation happening at the moment.

As for the game development side with exception to Wii, PC gaming is more profitable then any other current console.

I would have to disagree Jon. The evidence is in the number of games that are by passing the PC to go to consoles. Also PC gaming is harder to support because of the million different CPUs, mobos, vid cards and chipsets out there. Developers love the consoles because every Xbox has the same hardware so there is no worries about making it work with a million combinations of hardware. Also with piracy being less of an issue in the consoles, it makes it more attractive to game makers.

Consoles will be dead in 5 years. Replaced by Hybrid computers -- "ultra multimedia" home centers.

When the biggest companies in the world are behind it, technology is behind it, and the desire of the people, console's won't win.

Of course to be fair, computers, will also adapt to the new consumer demand.

Piracy is just as bad on consoles than on PC.

To further what Jon said...Take a look inside your consoles today...What are they? Basically your everyday PC put in a fancy case and a neet controller. I personally have actually seen a shift from a lot of 'console' only gamers, purchasing and now playing PC based games.

Like I mentioned earlier, being a tard but still a valid point...look at how many people play wow..and pay 15$ a month EVERY month to play wow.... Over 10 million purchased, and I think roughly 4 million active accounts..... Thats $60,000,000 a month in income. Thats relative to 2 million people purchasing a console game once every month.

I think your comment regarding 'ease of programming for console games' , is pretty accurate... I believe all you are seeing is the console directed publishers concentrating more on consoles, and the pc based publishers concentrating more on PC games, rather than jumping in each others worlds....Like it used to be.

We hear the same thing each time the new generation of consoles come out. This time PC gaming is finally dead. And each time the predictions have been wrong, and will be wrong this time as well.

And for the talk about consoles being dead in 5-10 years. That is coming from someone that founded Yoyo games and has a stake in that playing out. Don't think that what he said is not biased.
