tcngs
Can any one tell me why some of my cs source servers would not be showing on the master list? They show in hlsw and you can join them, but they are not showing in the master list. Thanks

leetservers
You want ip's in the 60's or 70's. 200+ ips dont get seen that well =bobby
Spartanfrog
Well where is your server located? Datacenter, etc? And what makes you think that bobby?
tcngs
This one is located i my dallas datacenter, but I have noticed it also on some in my chicago and london centers too Thanks
JasonF
I have heard what Bobby said before from clients. They would always request a 6*. or 7*. IP address for their CSS game servers regardless of the city.
Spartanfrog
Oh thats strange....
leetservers
And what makes you think that bobby? Well! I'll tell ya... Once upon a time the steamlist looked at the last digit of an ip so 69.28.220.1 got seen first before 69.28.220.245. most us us larger GSP's knew this and were able to secure "good ips". After a while all the larger Gsps had populated the server list and the smaller GSP's complained, so Valve changed how servers are listed. NOW, they are listed this way. you must keep in mind that most home isp's have older ip ranges in the 60.xxx-80.xxx range. If your game server starts with 69 and your home ip starts with lets say 64, the list fans out in both directions from your home IP. it will start showing game servers 64/62/60/72 first. Thats why you want "good ips" not 200+ Also realize that some home isps start with 24, remember you fan out both ways so a gamer with a 24 home ip will see your 200+ ip pretty easy. They will see the 200+ before they see 69. IF steam only had lets say 3G servers none of this would be an issue. however, with over 10G servers it is an issue. I myself have a cable and dsl line. My cable line sees almost everthing, my dsl line see about half the servers, seems that the dsl just gets overwhelmed. =Bobby
adamnp
Keep in mind this will be changing once again once the OrangeBox engine is in full flex, and it will remove the importance of low ip ranges for quick listing.
leetservers
I dont think OB will make a difference, its a browser issue not a engine issue. What I think is going to happen is they are going to enforce a region, not depend on world anymore. If and when they force a region then you won't have to deal with over 10G servers rushing into the browser on your home connection. =bobby
Spartanfrog
Oh thanks for clearing that up Bobby. Don't think I was challenging your statement, because I wasnt. I just had never heard of that before and was curious to why you thought that. Now I see what you mean...it does make sense
adamnp
bobby, that wouldn't be to bad an idea either, i'd say itd be better to just allout remove the steam browser ingame, and make something more like game-monito.. definately curious to see what the end product is, from what they were saying in the mailing list, it will be completely random first response first list. Aswell, the custom server tab that has appeared in TF2 will be spread across all hl/hl2 based games to further 'spread' the load of the 90 million servers listing. we shall see......who knows, it may never even be finalized...hah
leetservers
I'm sure the geotarget is a go. as far as the custom tab, tf2 guys had a fit, wait till the 40 man css guys see that tab, they will S***, LOL -bobby
adamnp
Were one of the ones leading that fight we run 2 of the top rated source servers and have for over 5 years now. What they did with that custom tab was absolutely retarded....But normally the stupidest thing you can think of is the way valve goes anywho...So should expect that :} I'm sure most of you guys remember the 9pm friday night updates that would break everything....thanks valve! :} Those were always fun!
