RackGaming
Hey everyone, Just a quick question that maybe you guys will help me out with. I have just bought a HP DL160 G5 server which has a Quadcore 2GHZ CPU obviously it's a "Passive" CPU due to no fans. Anyway here's the thing, I am looking into getting a second cpu for this box but there are 2 variations I have found thus far and don't know if both will fit or just 1. I know the obvious choice is to get the ebuyer one below but its gonna be a real bummer if I can't save that extra £50+ by going with the other one from BuyTech. Intel Quad-Core Xeon E5405 / 2 GHz ( 1333 MHz ) - Ebuyer: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145711/show_product_specifications?spectype=extended Intel Xeon (E5405) Quad Core Processor 1333MHz FSB (2U Passive) http://www.buytech.co.uk/product.php?productid=131150 The thing I am confused about is 2 things: 1. BuyTech CPU says "2U passive" (DL160G5 is a 1U Server) 2. Product Codes are different: Ebuyer #: 446077-B21 BuyTech #: BX80574E5405P Id like to know what your thoughts are, Will both cpu's fit or just one? Jdubz31
I would advise going with Buytech for the saving, and pickup an identical HP heatsink to keep things uniform. Heatsink info: ProLiant DL160 G5 Processor Heatsink - Spares Kit 457881-001 (SPS-Heatsink DL160). The heatsink version from Buytech is passive, however, they're saving it's a 2u passive heatsink, in which case it won't work in a 1u form factor. There are also HP processor upgrade kits that include the heatsink and the E5405 which can be had fairly reasonably, especially on ebay in the US. HIS-MOTHER
Or you could just buy this.. http://www.titan-networks.ca/products.php?func=product_profile&sku=27557&object=BX80574E5405A Included Accessories 1U passive / 2U+ active combo and be done with it. Search part# BX80574E5405A and it will return results you are looking for.
