Hosting Voice Servers

Hey would you be able to get any computer and send it to a datacenter and host voice servers on it? or does it have to have certain specs?

The specs on the server would depend on the voice server software, the number of voice servers, the number of voice slots and anything else running on the server. Check with your provider, some only allow rack mount servers, and some will allow a tower server.

Most datacenters charge by the U. However some will allow tower servers. Just give the DC a call and ask them to make 100% sure otherwise you may get a large bill if you send them a tower unit and they charge by the U.

 

Nowadays most servers are 1U to save space and $$$.

You don't need special equipment to host voice servers. They run on the same type machine you would use to host game servers.

 

The only thing to be concerned about is getting a license to host either TS or Ventrilo if that's what your wanting to do.

O ok. Ok so I am thinking to rent just a low end machine from somewhere and then hosting voice servers. (teamspeak and ventrilo)

As Rich said. make sure you get licensed. Teamspeak is not a problem getting, but Ventrilo has not issued any new licenses for 2-3 years.

Ok or better yet I can just resell servers from other companys

that would be the better option with the vent... but teamspeak if you have the time and money id say give it a go.
