Problem getting my mic working with vista & sound card.

I just built a new system w/ vista on it and i have a creative fatality sound blaster x-fi titanium professional series.

 

I am having the hardest time to get my microphone to work. I was hoping maybe someone on here can help me out since there are so many smart dudes in here

How is your microphone connected?

USB, Regular anolog connection (headphone and seperate microphone jack), etc.

its the regular analog connection. (headphone and seperate microphone jack)

Probably the most obvious question, correct drivers?

yea everything is up to date...

yea i have vista. my sound card says that it is vista certified but says designed for windows xp...?

 

also, i got my microphone working but there is a loud ringing now. im 99 percent sure its not my headphones because they worked great on my old computer on windows xp pro.

 

also i did notice that my sound card is like a quarter of a inch above my video card fan. would that make it ring though? is that even good?!?
