Invision Gaming

What exactly happened though ? If you are pulling in 3 x the amount of your server costs you don't all of a sudden not be able to cover the costs unless you did something terrible.

I've known quite a few GSP's that had solid businesses and made decent profits but lacked the will power to invest in the business end...

There are/were two invision gamings.. I believe the one in that blog post sold IRC shells and shoutcast servers among other things (possibly game servers). The other invision gaming sells game servers in the UK and the owner is a member of these forums IIRC. The latter's site might just be down temporarily.

Ah well, things happen. Rich is correct, lack of investment into the backend of the business can result in unfortunate circumstances such as this.

Yeah no kidding, seems like gsps leave more then a kids lemonade stand.

We're still here the datacenter took a dump and they are tring to get it backup and running.

You should consider a backup web server to change the name servers over to and at least have a web presence until your main server is back online.

Web Host is telling us 72 hours to fix the issue. I could build and deploy a new server in less than 72 hours. Time to find a new Web Host

That's odd coming from IXwebhosting I could set you up with a reseller account on one of our cPanel servers. I don't do plesk though

I would totally be setting up a temp web server so that you could at least proccess orders through paypal or something...

We were in the process of creating a mirror site so if something like this happened we could just update the DNS and drive on.

Well didn't quite get it finished.

Thanks for the offer but we already have a reseller account with another company. That is where we were setting up the mirror site.

Did the data center have a meltdown or did the server take a crap? If it is just the server then I can not explain a 72 hr outage. If the data center had a issue, aka The Planet Houston, then that makes more sense.

Personally I wouldn't accept 72hrs iether way, I have witnessed a datacenter having a major issue and having to reload almost all there firewall, routers and switches and replace a few as well. They still had everyone back online in just over 24hrs and there was on again off again service during that time as they were conducting the repair.

Granted support for the week after that was slow and all there techs had bags under there eyes everytime I went in. But a good datacenter realises they can't leave the customer offline becuase its inconvient to pull all staff in and make them work until problem is fixed.

These are bussiness they provide for and down time can be serious expence.

You should also consider offering support, DNS and email not just new sales. Without a site they can not even support their current clients.

The other problem with this or having a backup site is you would have to have 2 billing software license (whmcs is based on the dedicated ip you provide) or reset your license every time your site goes down but then you would have to update your database on the temp site to keep it up to date with your current site. The bad thing is using a shared/reseller hosting account to host your gsp site. VPS would probably work better but your still vulnerable to the other vps services on that box unless you can find a cheap dedicated server some where.

There's a difference between reloading/resetting firewalls and switches and rebuilding an entire data center because of an internal explosion. Haha.
