trancemode
I have a question..fr counter-strike source i don't really play this game but.. i know that 0 choke and 0 loss is the best.. but if choke sometimes arise from 0-5 is that normal ? with 0 loss. because i been experiencing a server with choke arising sometimes 0-5 and i have been trying to fix this by : updating drivers fixing server.cfg rates etc. client rates put "start in cpu 0" and still have no luck =/ is it normal ? dimitrifrom31
just make sure sv_minupdaterate is 66 or 100 I saw a lot of customers using sv_minupdaterate 10 and that was giving a hell of a choke altho i wouldnt worry about a 5 choke that can happen in game
CrimsonGT
The server will experience a lot of choke at the end/begging of rounds, start/end of maps, etc. 5 choke during normal gameplay isnt anything to be too worried about. Like you said 0 is obviously the best, but thats under optimal conditions and settings.
Derek
I have never played on a server that has ever had 0 choke as choke "pretty much" has nothing to do with the server.
Dan M
It makes me angry when there's a section in our server.cfg that says.. // RATE OPTIMIZATION - DO NOT MODIFY THESE and what do the customers do, modify them and think they're making their server better, then they submit a support ticket saying they have got lag. trancemode
1 more question: not really a CSS player. I noticed that FPS can never be constant.. i mean frequent or often yes. like 1000FPS would that also apply to tick rates? can tick rates of 100 sometimes drop to 95 or 90 sometimes? but im not saying OFTEN. like sometimes but goes back to 100? or is it suppose to be constant 100? GodFather
Yes it's very common. Just like visual FPS or even ping in general, networks are always sending/receiving different amounts of data at different times.

You are running windows with hpet so you will not have constant 1000FPS and the more servers you put on a machine the worse it will get. Just test it out you will see

Just test it out you will see Oh, I understand about the FPS but how about tick rates? are they suppose to be constant ? or can they drop if players have a "crap" ISP such as a slow connection like 1MB/ download speed. or something? GodFather
It's very common for FPS and tick rates to drop. It isn't normal for 100tick to stay at 33tick if that makes sense. Yes a crap ISP has an impact on choke/loss. 100tick will not always run at 100tick, it should average in that area is all.
