CrimsonGT
Just had a few silly questions that have come up while I am still setting everything up on TCAdmin. 1) Do you guys set affinity to a single core or spread it among all the cores? When I setup a test server I noticed none of the affinity's were checked. When I filled the server up I noticed it said it was running at 71% CPU for 14 players on tf2, which seems kind of high even for a single core being used. Its a Dual Quad Nehalem 5520, so 16 virtual cores if that matters. Also, is there anyway to specify for it to use all cores or a single core with automated setups? *Edit* The Cpu % I was going from was from the 'stats' command. I forgot how unreliable it can be, and after looking at the CPU chart, if I am reading it correctly, it used at a max of 4% CPU and 1% on average? If thats correct thats pretty damned good considering it was set to high cpu priority and 500 fps. http://brutalservers.net/cpu_graph.png 2) Just from searching the forums I have read that for CoD4 servers, you have to upload the entire game. My net likes to drop out occassionally for 10 second periods, and im not sure I can upload a 6GB game. Is there nowhere to download it, or some alternative method of getting the game server files up? 3) Is there anyway to add a bandwidth graph to servers so clients can see how much bandwidth their servers are actually using? 4) Last questions just for thinking ahead. Right now everythings running on my master server, but as we expand I would of course like to move as much of I can off this box so it can be used for games as well. What do you guys recommend for a master server? Would a VSP work, or would going with like an atom server or something be good? If I was to keep the master server on this box, how much can I actually move off of it to lighten the load? I know files can be done remotely, im wondering if the webpanel or other stuff should/can be moved off as well.
Derek
1. Hyper Threading sucks for game servers so you still more or less have 8 cores. 2. No, the only way is to upload your game as it's illegal to get the files any other way. 3. You would need to get a 3rd party script to monitor bandwidth for each game server but havent seen one before. 4. VPS won't work I highly suggest an atom server or even a P4 as it uses next to no resourcces even if you have 400-500 clients. You would also move everything off including the web side of things. zykomaniac
Well, dumeter can monitor the whole server bandwidth usage over time, and when it peaks in hourly period
