Open BETA has been announced as Saturday 19th December 2009 by Teamspeak.

It'll be 12:37 (Midday) GMT // 07:37am EST where the server files and client files will be available for download.

You won't be able to sell them unless you're one of the selected few ATHP's that will be able to sell them; however you will be able to host them.

It looks promising.

I just got off the phone with Triton CA and they will be adding us to the list of authorized providers which will be privy to the server and client files before the December 19th beta release date.

This will allow us to make sure that TCAdmin is ready to support TS3 when it is released.

I received a general overview of the new and enhanced features of TS3 and I think everyone will be excited with them.

I had the opportunity to use the TS3 Alpha about 2 years ago thanks to my job at the time, I completely agree that everyone will be impressed.

Hell I was impressed with the Alpha, when it was buggy and hardly usable. It's going to be interesting to see what Flagship does about Ventrilo when this launches, considering TS3 will be a viable contender in the voice market for a quality application.

lol keep dreaming

I'd put my vote on TS3

Fact of the matter is, there are allot of emerging VOIP gaming technologies.

If Vent isn't careful, they may lose a piece of the pie, and if they believe in capitalism (which I'm sure they love, since they've been running the market forever now).

We as providers are the ones who host their product, if we side with another product, well than Ventrilo loses out when we could be pushing Vent instead. So I wouldn't be surprised to see new providers poping up in the next year or so. However they'll be the more "quality" providers who are established.

Definition of "quality":

Someone who rubs Vent the right way enough times in email to be granted a license.

I fully understand Flagship's reasoning behind having X amount of authorized hosters. Less support, less work and the same amount of $$$$. If you had a choice between having 2000 clients to support and making $1000, or having 10 clients to support and making the same $1000 what would you pick?

Simply business strategy that currently works. As the VOIP market evolves with TS3 and Mohawk etc.. they may or may not have to evolve with it. It will all depend on what the supply and demand is. The very same authorized providers that Vent has today will most likely still be able to supply the masses with Ventrilo servers as the have in the past.

Even if one of the emerging VOIP programs begins to take a share of Ventrilo's current market share there is no reason to add more authorized hosters as the need for Vent servers will still be filled by the current hosters that exist now. Let's be honest, anyone who wants a Vent server can easily find a provider to purchase one through right now with a 10 second google search.

As a business person myself I would not add any more hosters unless it was a replacement of a hoster that is not growing, or is not hosting the product to a high standard.

As long as the sales of servers keep coming in it should not matter how many hosts are supporting your product.

People constantly curse Flagship up an down since they cannot get a license from them. It is very commonplace.

It it very similar to the EA ranked partners. You can cry, whine and bitch about it but you most likely will never host ranked servers.

We see how EA is doing without the support of many GSPs.

http://www.gametracker.com/search/bf2/

2975 world wide servers.

http://www.gametracker.com/search/bf2142/

700 world wide servers.

http://www.gametracker.com/search/etqw/

200 world wide servers.

Now lets not forget that *most* of those are modded and non-ranked.

If EA is an example, than Ventrilo will die a super slow death just like EA's ranked servers have in comparison to all world gaming as a whole.

Here is a comparison:

http://www.gametracker.com/search/cod/

550 Servers

http://www.gametracker.com/search/cod2/

2875 Servers

http://www.gametracker.com/search/cod4/

13875 Servers

And lets not forget the largest online game that supports GSP's and actively listens (more than any other game studio... not saying they're "good" but they are "better")

http://www.gametracker.com/search/css/

14625 Servers

I think the numbers speak for themselves, if you want to make money off your product, you have to not be so prejudice with your software.

The industry needs a set of rules, for example:

Must be a company that has been in business for X years.

Must be a registered company for X years.

Must maintain security, and prove that gamefiles are safe.

Hell even a licensing program, to qualify certain individuals in a GSP would be all fine and dandy.

However from the numbers above, its really obvious, that without support from the GSP's (big and small, everyone matters) products will die. You need a diverse market, or things will just fail.

I don't see Ventrilo dying, and they are extremly choosy about who they give licenses to. I see Flag making millions of dollars a year most likely.

Still, another voice product WILL grow, and WILL eat into Ventrilo's revenue stream.

How much is up to Flagship.

Ventrilo isn't some godly program that will always be successful because Flagship says so..
