Derek
Time to find a new host mate.
Steven Crothers
Making screenshots viewable requires a webserver on the gameserver - which is not beneficial for performance or system resources. I don't blame them for not having it, why not just use FTP and download them?
andrewwaters11
ok thanks fellas, do u guys over at XFS do that?
Steven Crothers
No, at this time we do not support webservers on our gameservers. We also do not carry BF2142 ranked servers, we only provide an unranked server.
proclan
I'd like to know how they acquired a ranked server license. domain registered on Mar 2009? 1 server location? hmmm reselling another providers ranked servers?
HIS-MOTHER
Reselling of 2142 is not allowed at all!! If he's reselling his provider is in violation.
Dan M
A quick Google search shows one of their IP addresses.. http://who.is/whois-ip/ip-address/66.225.231.250/
HIS-MOTHER
Velocity doesnt even offer ranked as far as I can tell from their site. One reason reselling is not allowed.. Taken from the direct-hosting.us site Your Server , Your Rules Not true with Ranked. You need to run your servers under EA's ROE or they can be deranked. Along with service quality issues like the one mentions by the OP.
Dan M
Yep, complying against "padding servers" and "servers that may give an unfair advantage over rankings", etc. Seems their either ranked, or selling "unranked" servers as "ranked". IP space shows they have a simple dedicated server with Colocrossing.
HIS-MOTHER
There are no 2142 servers on that range from what i see just BF2 ranked. http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?search=66.225.231.*&vars=bf2_ranked=1&game=bf2 Those can be resold. Steven Crothers
I have a feeling that their "ranked" servers will be going down shortly... since I think the provider who hosts them has seen this thread.

HIS-MOTHER
BF2 is allowed to be resold? I wasn't aware. Yup. They implemented the no Reselling from 2142 on since BF2 reselling was a fiasco.
lpgservers
OK, anyone interested in reselling BF2 ranked to me?

Hmm, I don't ever recall seeing a reseller heh. Than again BF2 was what? 5 years ago now? I remember a project where a few guys were hacking at the DLL's replacing the EA ranking IP's and replacing with a "custom ranked" project. I wonder what ever happened to that.. They were actually the py files which if your smart you lock down or restrict access to on unranked servers They tried to get unranked to rank but it had to be on a providers IP that was ranked. Santino Cid
I remember a few years ago you could rent a box from an EA ranked provider and you were allowed to run BF2 ranked servers, with limited access to the box. Maybe that is what they mean by "reselling". You can still do this with BF2, no? I've haven't seen it done any other way than that.

You can rent a dedi from us and get desktop to the machine, W/ ranked servers. What you don;t get is access to the files.

I'm sorry, I didn't explain properly. The project was successful in replacing the hostname of the EA rank collecting server, with another server. A fully custom "ranked system" was put in place for a non-ranked server. I remember helping a clan set it up once back in the day.

You run the ranked servers on the machine, but you limit access to the files, yet they still get RDP? Hacks. How do you accomplish that? Or are you providing ranked servers off another machine? HIS-MOTHER
The files are on the same machine. How we achieve this is not disclosable.
Steven Crothers
Hmm I smell multiple user accounts and a complex user permission system So theoretically, if I were to rent a server from you right this moment to run ranked servers for my own personal use - I would have no access to the users and groups mmc snap-in would I?
