File Transfers, is it really that dangerous/needed?

I wanted to post this to get an idea of why it is a good idea to disable this. Are there security risks involved here (i.e. stealing of TS3 license key?) or is it just to prevent this from becoming a file server for porn, warez and other things it was not designed to do. Also are there ways to limit their scope of where they can get or upload files, as well as how fast and the size of the files that can be uploaded. Also is anything lost with this being completely disabled. I am sure the community would be interested in this so we know what we are getting into when we enable or disable this feature.

1° I would definitely say yes about security risks however no exploit was revealed yet.

2° the upload of illegal files is arleady a risk

3° about restrictions please read the documentation / TCA forums, this was explained.

4° By disabling you lose the ability of uploading / Downloading files.

I can tell you after talking with a few of the medium/larger hosts we all will be keeping this feature disabled.

While I think its a nice feature there just is not enough information/stats on it to justify the few dollars you can charge for such functionality.

HIS-MOTHER said it best....If you want a file server, get web hosting.
