ECF
Smartermail Hmail MailEnable They all have free email server software for at least 1 domain. If you need more domains you may have to pay extra. Exchange is great but expensive.

studeggle
Rack Space offers MS Exchange for $10 a mail box which is a very fair price. Hmmm, I guess fair would be in the eye of the purchaser. Thats a per mailbox per month price. My small company has 5 boxes, thats $50/month and I know plenty of companies with more then that. If you have to have exchange it might be worth, but there are plenty of competitors that are worthy of review and many even allow free testing of there product. ECF
For strictly smtp and pop3 email only I would suggest going with a free solution such as Smartermail or MailEnable. However if you require sync features for your emails, calendar and contacts to say an I-Phone then Exchange FTW
