The blog post is irrelevant now. The missing DLL file issue has been fixed with the latest update which can be acquired from hldsdupatetool.

You need to install steam on the box and have it running in the background.

 

Here is my config for it.

 

server.cfg shouldn't be in /alienswarm/cfg/

place it in : /swarm/cfg/

Could always be worse, i have seen some games take a core alone just to change level.

the worst thing is, it only supports 4 players? Is it worth the pain?

I think there is some mode which supports 4v4 deathmatch.

quick one lads, so i have tca cfg and have game from steam? from which folder and what files exactly i should copy to gameinstalls/alienswarm folder?

Fantastic help? hmmm, we didn't answer the question because if you downloaded the game from the hlds update tool you wouldn't be questioning what would be needed as it has all of the files you need.
