Copyrights Trademarks

Copyright and Trademark are two different things.

Copyright exists the moment your stuff is written but only protects identical copy, or one you can prove was a full copy and then a few words were hand changed to try and circumvent the copyright.

If you have a significant amount of material you feel is substantially different then the standard material out, you can further register it with the US Copyright office for additional proof that you wrote it first. But as with anything there are fees involved in this so rather costly for your average material as anything you create is automatically copyrighted.

Trademarks refer to your name and must be registered. "Dragon Game Servers" has been registered. It costs a couple hundred bucks and you must show that the company name is unique and then wait the challenge time as the government provides the public the chance to dispute the uniqueness of the company name. But I have found a copy of the trademark to be a very effective document for running off the poachers that have come up over the years. But this is a step many have not taken as it is a several hundred dollar process and if anyone already has cause to use it they can get your request turned down without any refund so you'll be out the money without a trademark. So ensure you I's are dotted and your T's are crossed first in the uniqueness of hat you are registering.
