Anyone using the E3-1230 Processor

Looking for some feedback on the Intel Xeon 3.2GHz E3-1230 Processor.

Vee has some for sale and I was just wondering how they compare to a dual quad core 5410

The practical 16GB memory restriction is a major issue right now.

To get beyond 16GB you need 8GB UDIMM which are not available at reasonable prices, nor will they be for some time.

All those items shipped to me from just newegg only amounts to $729.52. I'm sure it would be even less through a supplier but haven't bothered to look.

Problem is as Jon has stated is the 16GB limitation right now. We have ran into this issue. We like the platform and see many benefits including the incredible power draw it doesn't consume, plus its just a good as several of the dual proc machines, with just a single processor.

My feed back is, while they are good, we really need to wait until Kingston or Crucial actually makes the 8GB UDIMM modules before these servers will really be economical and beneficial for most of us gaming providers.

My two cents.

I don't think a 16GB RAM limit will be an issue on a single quad core server, You will cap the CPU before maxing the RAM. Most of our Dual 5410 servers only use 8GB.

I was looking at getting a few of the 1230 systems to rent as dedicated servers.

  • 2 weeks later...
Have you used dual quad core 5410 systems how do the single 1230 processors system compare

We had one Dual Quad 5410, but the single 1230 processors are much better imo. Less CPU% per srcds.exe in Task Manager. The 1230 also felt more responsive over RDP.
