TCAdmin - Windows or Linux?

Hello there..

 

So for the last couple of days I've been trying out TCAdmin on Linux and Windows..

 

I can't decide if I want to run the Master Server on a Windows machine or a Linux?

 

I mean a copy of Windows Server 2008 cost like 689$? And Linux is free?

 

So what is best in your opinion? Windows or Linux?

I run it on windows. You can have it run on the Windows Server 2008 R2 Web Edition.

Which is considerably cheaper. Also in a datacenter, in holland atleast, you are kinda bound by SPLA. I pay about 10 bucks monthly for the license.

Is there any disadvantages running a Linux Master Server?

Not really, I mean, assuming you'll run gameservers on your master server too.

It all just depends on the games. some games run better on linux, some run better on windows

I read somewhere that Source games like; CSS, CSGO. Run better on Windows?

 

And Minecraft run better on Linux?

Word has it that minecraft does run somewhat better on Linux than Windows. I don't think Source matters all that much.

Linux only matters for source if you want to run 1000fps servers. Personally I run all of my servers on linux. Mainly for its easy of use.

Oh okay, I didn't know that..

Not to say Windows isnt good for game servers but Linux is less featured, it's simply more efficient as a multi-user OS than Windows. It prioritizes/controls processes better, and has lower CPU/memory overhead freeing resources for apps.

And btw, what Linux-distribution do you use?

Obviously TCAdmin "v2" was created because Linux is a far better OS choice for running gameservers... hands down beats windows across the board.

TCAdmin 2 isn't really built for Linux, it's not native.
