Daersun
So it looks like griffenrun was bought by hyped gaming, but they are canceling all customer accounts? Im confused
ECF
Probably to start fresh. Take the name, rebuild the website and infrastructure, and then re-open.
Daersun
I thought rich was the highest bidder on this. The entire sell was a screw up it seems. Just wanted to give some advice to all the businesses out there... If you lose a large customer base for some reason - DO NOT start selling your servers at cost like griffen run. They built a business model of offering serves for $100+ a pop. Then when it wasnt possible to do that anymore, started offering prices lower then ANYONE else trying to buy customers. What happened is their customers they had left that were still paying 100+ a month got annoyed and wanted the lower rates. Then they were stuck with 100s of customers paying almost nothing. Then again...I could be wrong.
Monk
I wouldn't of aquired their assets, they were locked into a contract w/ internap for expensive bandwidth. I can get it as low as $25/mbit, though.
Daersun
I wonder what kind of colo prices they were getting. But regardless without customers it seems a little pointless to buy a company
Defcon|Rich
The whole deal was screwed up.. I filed a dispute with ebay and contacted them, They agreed to sell for the price we bid but wouldn't accept paypal or any other method stated in the auction.. I even offered to hand deliver the funds but they wanted it sent by wire transfer only so use your judgement on what they intended.. Jordan, For $1700 it's not a bad deal. I didn't want the customers or machines anyway just the domain and custom programs. Monk, You guys at velocity get more outrageous by the day with your fake corporation and silly titles.. You rent servers at thePlanet and Steadfast Networks so how would you know what colo rates are? Quit blowing smoke up everyone's axx.. $25/mbit contracts are for companies like thePlanet and EV1 who have 10,000+ machines running not a medium size game server company who sells $1/slot games and resells ventrilo.. Daersun
The scripts do look great - and for 1700 thats a great deal, however I assumed they paid the full price of 8k. As someone who knows what bandwidth costs for a datacenter... Internap can be gotten for 40$/meg BUT, requires a 100 meg commit and alot of ass kissing. No. Theplanet? wrong. We own all of our own hardware, Don't you wish you could say the same? $25/mbit contracts are for companies like thePlanet and EV1 who have 10,000+ machines running not a medium size game server company who sells $1/slot games and resells ventrilo.. We don't sell ventrillo... You don't deal with people who can give better rates on bandwidth. We are larger than you think. Before you flame me in the future, at least know what the hell you are talking about. I laughed at your original post, because you are so weak and pathetic. This post might get edited, but we make more in 6 months than you make in 3 years.
Defcon|Rich
And there you go again bragging about how much better you are.. I'm at a loss on how you know our financials but nice attempt.. Don't do business with thePlanet huh? http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=velocity-servers.net&type=ALL And apologies, It's ServerCentral not Steadfast now.. http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=66.225.194.

jbiloh
Rich, The machine at ThePlanet is a web box. Our revenue cabinets are at another facility in the Dallas metro area. Server Central is one of the nations leading tier2's. No one should be embarrased doing business with them. Our operation in Chicago, which not only utilizes SC's mix but other carriers, is top notch. I'm afraid I can't say the same about Steadfast. I will review the facts so that there is no future confusion: A: Velocity Gaming Servers was a DBA prior to being a NYS Corp (Dating back to 2003) B: None of our revenue machines are rented. C: All of our revenue machines are company owned Quad Opteron and Woodcrests. D: We have an AS#, and operate Layer3 networks nation wide. E: A significant portion of the servers ran through TCA are hosted by VS. Thank You, Jon Biloh Director Operations, Velocity Servers Inc

Defcon|Rich
No problem Jon, Just having a little fun with your boy Point I was making is in my experience the companies that do very well generally don't make a big deal about it. On the flip side the ones not doing well or wish they were doing better tend to over state their case at every opportunity.. It's possible age is a factor or just a very proud young man you have there Either way you've always been ok with me Jon and it's good to hear your doing well
Monk
Webserver is at the planet.. who cares. You're not much better off, @ softlayer.. But we don't sell gameservers out of the planet, we haven't in over 16 months.

Daersun
From what ive found out, Hyped gaming bought griffenrun, paid their debt, droped their customers, and renegotiated. These guys have HUGE pockets, and are paying sourceradio.com 2-3k a month to be a main sponsor.
Defcon|Rich
I really hope your info is wrong Jordan, Either that or these guys are not that bright..
Daersun
Nope, came from the owner of SourceRadio directly - They are now sponsored only by Hyped gaming. I asked him if it was a large company, and he said " Nope, just a couple of guys with big dreams" My response was "who mortgaged their houses?" Defcon|Rich
Considering sourceradio is parked at godaddy and has zero traffic that's a pretty big gamble I'd say.
Daersun
http://source-radio.net/ PR3 Traffic Rank for source-radio.net: 1,278,671 Plus they control like 7 channels in IRC some with as many as 600 members in it. BUT even so, id rather put the 3k into adwords google customers > (much much much better) then IRC customers.

stealthservers
Ahh - oops But still IRC customers are the worst customers you could ask for. I had to respond to this, not to create any argument, but I would beg to differ. We generate 80%+ of our business from IRC customers. I will say however they do tend to be VERY picky. Most the customers expect nothing less then the best. At the same time, they are great customers, when you give them what they want they tend to be very grateful. Of course this is a generalization and it will obviously vary. Also I have absolutely noticed that HypedGaming has definitely made their presence known. I seem to be seeing them all over the place. They should be a bit more careful in my opinion. You know what they say, the higher you go, the further you fall. But hey, maybe their motives are different then what it would seem. Anyways, will be interesting to see how that plays out Just my 2 cents Regards, Brad
Defcon|Rich
We had an IRC channel for awhile and spent 90% of the time telling people "Sorry we don't sponsor.." In my experience the serious customers would rather call or email. I know I'd rather talk to someone personally when ordering something online but then again our service level and pricing structure is aimed at a different market then most game providers so it's not very attractive to the average IRC user who demands either 'free' or close to it.. As for HypedGaming that remains to be seen.. It doesn't really give me a warm feeling to see on a companies front page a plea for folks to idle in their IRC channel for support.. But as mentioned above I've never been a fan of IRC either.. It strikes me as cheap and not how a legit company does business.. That's my opinion anyway..
