jbiloh
It's always fun to speculate who is the biggest... and yes this is mostly speculation. Here is my estimate on the 5 biggest GSPs in North America: 1: Game Servers 2: Nuclear Fallout 3: Velocity Servers 4: Art of War Central 5: Aim2Game??? adamnp
When you say biggest, are you talking customer wise or dollar wise?
Todd Holley
Well if aim2game only offered chicago and dallas locations I would replace their name. Counting on if http://www.aim2game.com/Locations.php is up to date or not. It looks like they do a hell of a lot of voice!

qwidjib0
Well if aim2game only offered chicago and dallas locations I would replace their name. Counting on if http://www.aim2game.com/Locations.php is up to date or not. It looks like they do a hell of a lot of voice! 600 active clients per location is actually quite tiny in the voice world. http://www.darkstarllc.com/services/ventrilo-servers/network-status.php I'm actually pretty certain that vent goes 1. darkstar communications 2. typefrag 3. nationvoice Oddly enough as complementary as they are, voice and gaming are still two entirely different worlds. I've a bit less knowledge in the area but based on what I've seen, I think Jon is at least close with his top 5 GSP's.. leetservers / branzone could certainly be in the mix too, and possibly a few others that come to mind, but I've no direct research to base that off of as I have in VSP's. Defcon|Rich
I would be interested to know how you guys go about deciding the numbers?
Defcon|Rich
Strike that.. I think I answered my own question.. Just took a minute for my brain to work properly I don't have any hard info on most of the ones mentioned, Mostly speculation based on talk around the industry but what I can gather personally I'd say Velocity sits with approx. 950 customers. It could be off by a few hundred in either direction but that should be about right. If that's accurate which I'm fairly sure it's close I would think they would either be much lower on the list or the ones on the list aren't doing so well if you consider personally we have just over 1600 voice server clients alone and I wouldn't say thats a great deal in the grand scheme of things. Nuclear Fallout used to be pretty big but business is on the decline. I would be surprised if they made it through 2008. Branzone has always been steady. Good folks over there who know how to run a server. They cater mostly to the ranked crowd and based on that I would guess 400-500 clients at best is where they are. Aim2Game likewise should be on par with those numbers. I'd guess Leetservers would be around 500 clients on a good day. They have always been in the middle somewhere but after the old owner left I've heard business leveled off. Art of War like Nuclear Fallout simply isn't producing anymore. The old days are gone fellas.. AOWC at least made an effort to scale with the times so I may be way off on that one but I don't believe business is like it once was. Back in the day AOWC did well but merging with VSK most likely did more harm then good with new customers and the enigma that VSK always brings to the table.. That's my opinion anyway.. I could be wrong
JasonF
Interesting thoughts Rich. I too wonder about Art of War Central since the merger. It looks like they are starting to cater to the $1.50/slot crowd which was never apart of their normal business model so I would assume they are trying to shake things up. jbiloh
After more thought, I'm not as convinced that Aim2Game belongs on my list. Either way, we'll never know for sure. Rich - I thought your operation was mostly dedicated servers these days? I was under the impression that you were quite large in that department? Dedicated hosting has been good to us but our bread and butter has always been voice and game servers.
leetservers
I think AWOC took killerpings too, I made a offer on killer but AWOC bid more than me. =Bobby
jbiloh
I've heard mixed reports as to who bought Killerpings. Doesn't matter much anyways, they were small. Although they did have a nice contract with Gigenet. As far as AOWC's new ownership, just about everything they do confuses me just a little bit more. Rich - glad to hear you still do some in the GSP industry. Let me know when you're ready to leave Softlayer eh? Hehehe.

Spartanfrog
Hey I dont have a GSP i plan start one late 2008. Im just saying my thoughts. My way of ranking would probably be not just in customers. I personally think Velocity is the best GSP because they have good pings and their website is fricken awsome. Leetservers seems pretty nice to me and no offense to Defcon, I dont like your game servers as much but your dedicated servers are nice. To me, as a customer, website plays a huge roll in picking a GSP and Defcon's website has a lot of content, a good thing, but sometimes too much. Course that ranking is just the appealing factor. The gsp i just plain hate is AOWC because their servers are run horribly. Customer wise, i think gameservers.com has the most customers but I dont particulary like them. They are like the walmart of game servers lol. Just my .

But like the people that shop at Wal-Mart, some people are willing to look past long wait times and horrible service for low prices.

Todd Holley
Alexa only gets those stats from people with the Alexa toolbar.... how accurate is it?
Daersun
Fragnservers.com has a traffic rank of: 284,456 Its pretty accurate because the same percentage who have it views each website.
Defcon|Rich
I don't think Alexa should be viewed as a tool to determine what's being discussed here. Just because your ranked higher then someone else really doesn't mean a thing. I know several GSP's that have a larger customer base and pull in more sign ups per month then fragnservers yet their Alexa score is off the charts.
