I was wondering if any of you guys are affiliated with GameRail? What are your inputs about them (Good/Bad)?

We're connected to them. No issues to speak of.

I just keep getting aggrivating emails from them to try their product more and more...I did try it, I was decently happy with it, until I saw the monthly price for the minimal difference. Something like this is better down on paper than it is in reality..

Just want to clarify, I've never used their client side - we're a connected provider. In that respect, we have no issues to speak of.

GameRail is run by a fantastic bunch of guys. Their technology is outstanding and only getting better!

 

AFAIK they have 4 patents pending!

I think Gamerail is a waste of time for most. Here on Roadrunner, Gamerail actually increased my ping to any location. Their asking price is crazy too, even if it gives you a 15ms difference. I was involved in the beta test and even then when it was free for me I didn't use it.

They are not on every network (yet) customers who's area's are directly peered with them will see a marked improvement.

 

Remember, its not all about pings, I cant tell you how many times I get random spouts of packetloss while playing a game, $11/month to lower ping and raise consistency isnt absurd.

 

Their network has grown and improved ALOT over the last year since beta, and it continues to grow.

Kenny, I think its important that we encourage new technology to evolve and offer constrictive criticism rather then just say tried it a year ago - its "absurd."

 

This is technology that, while may not be fully developed and work for 100% of games 100% of the time YET, I defiantly see the potential for this product - and after all, remember this is subsidizing bandwidth costs for the GSPs. You may not see the direct effect of it yet - but lets think ahead here. Lets say your host KNEW that you were a game host and 75% of your BW would be going though a direct free peer. You would have bargaining power with them to drive your cost down. Are we there yet? No, are we on our way? Yes!

 

Along the same lines - am I getting paid directly? No, but do I see the potential upside to pad my wallet? I sure do!

The last time I tried Gamerail was less than a month ago because they sent me yet another 'come back' email. I decided to try it out again to see if it had improved. It had not. They say they're on the network I'm on yet it just gets worse when I use it. I think it's a good idea on paper, but in practice, it's not so great..

I just finished trying their new product, with a 10 user group from our community. Again, I say its junk.

 

Overpriced for minimal increase, unless your the fluke person that gets decent increases...But I doubt thats enough to keep them in business, hence the new discount emails coming bi weekly from them.

 

I hate to be a shadow of a doubt, but regardless how cool they are, I don't see their business plan working.

I have never tried GameRail so I will not comment on performance. But, I don't see a large crowd paying more per month for their regular internet just to drop their ping by 10ms. Most gamers are cheap and will not fork out extra dough just to connect to a server on the same network. I see GameRail as a marketing ploy and nothing more, only time will tell.

Every server our clan has rented before and our current one have been on GameRail enabled networks so that helps us to know that the servers are running well.

 

I have used the client and I found it to be helpful to decrease my pings, and reduce my hops in half. Gaming didn't improve so much that I was amazed. This was during a free trial period so it was neat to see how this technology could improve my gaming.

It is with deep regret to announce that the GameRail network has been discontinued at this time. Thank you to the gamers who have participated in the GameRail trial and support of its development as we worked to solve the issues of latency and network quality and their impact on gaming. We believe that latency and network quality will continue to affect the gaming experience and while we are still believers in the GameRail concept, the market does not appear to be ready to support a standalone network for gaming at this time.

I second that...I wonder if they worked the prices, as I think they should have cut the prices to a 1/4 before shutting the doors....Was just to expensive for most.

Had this been more affordable I would have considered, as well as many of my clan members.

They won't pay for it but they will sure be upset if they get 1-5ms more ping then what they consider 'normal'.

They should have been going after corporate clients that require a clean fast network, not gamers...

 

Gamers are cheap. Companies are more inclined to spend the $$$ for a clean, private connection.

They're gaming sector closed, doesn't necessarily mean their private network has. I wouldn't be surprised if they're just moving on to another industry, one that's "ready to support a standalone network"

I had heard the complete opposite actually, would be beneficial to atleast get something out of the work they did......There arn't to many industries that are 'latency critical' though, that I can think of.
