Crimson
So I have always ran srcds games, but I just purchased CoD4 to get break from Valve games, and I love it. I want to set up a server on my dedicated box, and I haven't really been able to find any in depth tutorials on what I need to do. So far I have seen a lot of people talking about uploading the entire game folder, installing DX9, and installing PB on the box. Im sure theres some files that arent needed to run the server. Does anyone know of any good lists that show what files are needed and which aren't and maybe a semi detailed tutorial on setting it up? Also, just curious if anyone has a compressed server package I could download from them? (Preferably just the server files needed, but if its the full game thats fine). Anyways, thanks ahead of time for the help
studeggle
While there are a couple video files that are not needed, they realy don't make much difference in the size. I seriously doubt anyone is going to provide you a compressed copy of the game files as that would be illegal. There is also the problem of patches, if you just upload game files without an install your going to have trouble patching the server as the patches put out for COD4 look for an installed version to patch. Saturnsix
see if this helps. http://www.gamingsa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1584 Two options: 1) You can always install the game from the cd to your server, if it is next to you. 2) Download and install steam and creat an account or log into yours, then purchase the game, and finally download and install cod4 on your server and then move the files. Keep the same game seq. ie c:\programs\cod4\....
jcroom
Patching is not a problem, if you look on FPSAdmin.com after a new patch is released they will make a post with what files were changed. Then you can just upload the changed files after you patch your own game.
GSD_UT
So I have a question. If I want to do a downgrade from COD4 1.7 to COD4 1.6 I would just put the files I wanted to over write in the COD4 1.6 patch folder? This sounds like what you are talking about but I am not sure. ECF
Yes, if you put the 1.6 patch files in the folder then publish it in the panel you could downgrade that way.
HIS-MOTHER
Yes, if you put the 1.6 patch files in the folder then publish it in the panel you could downgrade that way. Not all game patching will be backwards compatible. COD4 is one since the patching adds additional new .iwd files which would create a mismatch in the folder. GSD_UT
Not sure if you saw this yet, but you can just copy these files over and it will make 1.7 now 1.6. Wont this work?

HIS-MOTHER
Opps forgot link. http://www.mcgamers.com/index.php?topic=951.0 That creates a second directory so wont really work in TCA. you could just make a 1.6 install and a 1.7 install and allow game switching and enable only 1 at a time.
