WR-Rob
Right im having a right nightmare!! Over the last 7 days my company has really started to pickup, and this morning i get up to find that my website is down due to mysql failed on the server. Now i dont own the box, its the only one service that i dont do myself (yet - hosting server being setup currently) Now i followed the usual lines of submit a support request, after 2 hours gave them a call as had have no replys at all.. as the day has passed i am getting more and more stressed.. i have emailed multiple times and phoned with no replys.. and now there emails are bouncing back saying the email address is currently not available.. all this from a fairly big london hosting company. Now i still have full ftp access as its only mysql thats failed. Now to my question.. can i download the mysql databases via ftp as im sick of the rudeness of there support.. if they are even there! i look like a twat to my customers as i cant give them a answer as to when it will be back.. ive backed up all my page files etc but cant find the mysql databases.. ive never taken hard backups of my site due to the fact i pay for backup from the company!!! and i cant even access that via the cp due to the mysql being down! Im stuck in a hard place atm. im loosing customers and cant give them answers. Is there anyway i can get the databases via a non http method! Any help much apreachated! swish
Ouch....if the mysql service is down you wont be able to get your database. Off site daily backups are key! Get yourself a VPS or a dedicated web box so issues like this dont happen.
HGN-Daniel
Who is your webhost?
WR-Rob
Weycrest.com, i pay for the offsite backups from the company! it never crossed my mind that they wouldnt be contactable as they are a largish company tbh. Until they contact me back i cannot do anything!
WR-Rob
Get yourself a VPS or a dedicated web box so issues like this dont happen. Already got myself a dedi, well more than one infact. The only reason we out sourced the hosting was because we was spending our time making the right decisions regards the hosting and the setup of the hosting network etc. The annoying thing is my hosting is online as of 2 days ago, plesk1.liveon3internet.com but i was just doing some last min testing and letting the machines run for a while before opening it up for customer use. We had schedualled to start the move over process a week tomo, to give us plenty of time to backup / upload and test before we de active the current hosting! i feel like tearing my hair out! HGN-Daniel
A VPS would have been fine.. but a few extra boxes never hurts.. (unless you have a small budget..) Chances are that they do have backups. It looks more like a configuration error with apache/mysql than a hard drive failure. You're just going to have to wait for them to resolve it. A thread on WHT usually catches web host's attention though
WR-Rob
Exactly what annoys me is that it will be a 10min job to fix.. id understand if it was a total hardware fail as it happens, but to provide no updates on the status nor even respond to let me know that everything is being looked at, im sat here in the pitch black tbh. the reason im taking a while with my hosting is that im going to be offering my hosting on a clusternetwork. And as they say its sods law. I leave for my holiday tomo morning at 4am (6 hours time from now GMT) Was ment to be sleeping now, but am here just waiting for any sort of reply from the company. Ahhhh.. Rant over sorry. ive been stuck here all day with no one to have a winge too lol thanks for listening!
ECF
I can see how that would be frustrating. Nothing worse than having your company's website down. That = NO SALES!
WR-Rob
Indeed, its not just the sales side of things. Like i said in the first post the company was just starting to get noticed and people was starting to trust the brand. That trust that people build knowing that a site is online all the time, gives the customer the trust in ordering from the company. Of which is now destroyed. I just cant wait for it to now come online so i can move everything off the server and politely tell them to go shove themselves.
WR-Rob
FINALLY! a break through. Well i just emailed the admin@ email address for the 9th time today and got a reply to which i was told they had changed the server over to a new box, changed ips and had emailed me.. but what the idiots didnt think about was they emailed my email account that was hosted on THAT box! so no emails recieved. At least now ive updated the nameservers and as soon as everything is up again ill be pronto moving everything away from the company.
