good luck with the dedi files... Seem to be the way of the new games. "release when 80% complete, let the paying public "beta test for us", then make GSP's purchase the game, then 1 year later release a dedi file that half works, and let GSP's beta test that for us for the next 6 months."

Sound about right?

well just picked up the game and looks alot diff from FC1. I only see a bin directory with FC2ServerLauncher.exe which brings up a panel to run dedicated server however no options yet for CLI mode.

Not much help either in the readme.txt

======================================================

3.3. Dedicated Server

A simple interface to launch a dedicated server for Far Cry® 2.

Server Tab

All server settings can be set from here. Choose what kind of server you want

and start it! Take note that the "MapCycle" can be set using a more user friendly

interface, just click the button next to it when selected. Before starting the

server, you can save the current configuration. You can also load a previously

saved or a recent configuration. The latest saved or loaded configuration will be

used the next time you start the launcher, otherwise, the default configuration

will be used.

Console Tab

Once a server is started, this is where you can see what’s happening. You can

issue commands in the bottom text box (using Tab will auto complete your command)

or use a button at the right.

Players Tab

The current players score and statistics can be seen from here. On the upper left,

you get the score by player for the current match (and information about the team

and the captain if appropriate). You can tell a message to the selected player with

the "Tell" text box. You can kick him with the "Kick" button. Also, when you select

a player, all of his current statistics and all messages that he sent to everyone

will be shown at the right. At the bottom, you will get the current match type. You

can say a message to everyone using the "Say" button. And finally, you get the team

score for the current match if appropriate.

Options Tab

Some options are available for you here. You can set the font, the fore and back

color of the console. You can enable/disable log files. Every time you start a

server, the console output will be saved into a file named after the current date.

You can also add the time at which each output occurs. You can see those log files

using the "Go to logs" button or delete them using the "Delete all" button.

You can enable or disable updates made to the players tab with the last option.

That readme is about worthless as they come. The table of contents lists sections that don't even exist, awesome

hahaha pretty sad eh. Well I see some big name companes taking pre orders for dedicated servers so theres gotta be some cli commands, im stumped on this one.

Pretty big game and tons of potential but these developers gotta turn a gear and realize running a server off the same machine you play on on residential bandwidth is gonna kill the MP experience.

The server launcher exe looks to be it, so far anyhow. I am assuming there maybe some commandline to get it fired up dedicated wise, but as it stands does not appear to be easily found.

The launcher also uses a crap load of CPU. If that is how it will stay, then this game may be unable to be hosted at any reasonable price.

As for taking pre-orders. You should go ask them how soon you will have your server if you buy lol.

wow this game sucks. Look at all the complaints in the ubi forum, especially for MP lol

The quality of games being released anymore is just getting tiresome. I don't understand why they don't do beta testing like they all used to.

Games used to be pretty well polished before release and now, well anything close to being polished would be a dream.

COD:WAW is doing a beta/demo, seems they may be on track, but it is getting a little close to the release to start beta testing.

Anyone remember Medal of Honor Airborne when it got released? It was really hyped up, but ended up getting released in really early beta quality, without a proper server... They fixed it, but not before people gave up on it...

This is starting to look the same.... Oh and I bet you they will end up blaming their lack of success to piracy.

Ok we have FarCry 2 working with one small problem. None of the commandline commands we have tried to redirect the game to read the server config seem to work. By default it reads the server.cfg that it creates in the my documents folder.

We should have this figured out soon just a matter of finding the correct command line

If we are not mistaken this uses the crysis game engine, but the crysis commands do not work.

It uses very little of the CryEngine everything thing else is Ubisoft made. The problem I find is there are 0 known command arguments that seem to work with the server files at this time, and as you said everything is read from the My Documents folder, which is unfortunately a clear indication that they did not mean for FC2 to be run on a real dedicated server in a datacenter with one or more instances.

This is the same case as with Vegas, as you have the ability to run a dedicated server but the important settings that an end user could change were slim to none.

But as with most things if there is a will there is a way :), even if someone has to create a custom made dedicated server.

Like they did for the 1st R6LV. Someone in the community released the server files and configs need to run it as a dedicated server.
