No_Mercy
Its come up today that without mentioning names, but probably the largest host in the world, is alowing clients access to the .exe file in cod4, and as a result their clients are running cracked servers, For us this is a big no no, but has to make you think how come they get away with it. does anyone know if there is an offical point of law with this or is it just a moral thing ?. Just thought this has probably come up before, but just got annouyed today that a client of mine for one game told me he would not host he's cod4 with us unless we let them have the exe file, I guess size does mater. Johnny5_Hull
I am confused.... If they are allowing access for users to the .exe.......... it means that it exists already, so why would they need to use a cracked version if there is a full one already in existence? JasonF
Allowing exe uploads is a major security nightmare, tell him to find a new game host.
Johnny5_Hull
Ahhh, allowing uploads, fair enough. From the op, it sounded like he meant allowing them access to an existing original .exe.... thats what was baffling me. Maybe I need more coffee
HIS-MOTHER
Apparently they are getting people used to this as we had a new client get upset when he could not upload his cracked .exe file and then mentioned the other provider stating that they allowed it. I told him we don't and that was that.
studeggle
Yea, have to love that whole "but so and so does it, and they are a major provider line" I've heard it so many times I've considered adding it to my FAQ. So much fun when the big boys leave security wholes and get the customers used to that being the way it should be.
SickPuppy
So how many game servers do you have to rent before you are a "major provider." Who would allow .exe files to be uploaded. Well just rent a server form them and upload a few nasty exe files and they will stop that.
maddanny
I can give a sample: iXd Few months ago i rented a FFOW server from them as there was nowhere to download the server. And i had to open 2 tickets until get a response from them about this issue: their exe wasnt protected, so you just had to upload a new file called same as the server executable and you can make whatever you want. I'm sure that you can do same on their Crysis servers by LUA issue BTW, how many disabled .pak and .lua file uploading in their Crysis/Wars servers ??? SickPuppy
I don't want to be A-Hole but if we have to follow the rules then so do they. I will send an email to Activision
Creed3020
Are these cracked .exe's the ones that are giving out 3500 XP points per kill? I noticed one of these servers online yesterday (COD:WAW) and couldn't believe how corrupt COD:WAW had already become. I knew the game's ranking system would become a farse but this just seems stupid now.

DougK94
No those are not cracked with the utra points. Treyarch did not lock some cvars, so just adding them into the config will allow it.
