Todd Holley
A 12mbit commit should be plenty.
cissam
It is? (This can lower my cost much, if it is)

Todd Holley
1mbit is no a lot of transfer if your going to do this for game servers.... i'd get at least 2. I have ~3 for my machines.

Todd Holley
That is just port speed... I thought you were asking about bandwidth commitments.
iLight
I'm really speaking about bandwidth commitments. I'm gonna have 100mbps on that server and 2x 1gpbs port speed
Todd Holley
A 100 mbit commit should be around 5000 a month. That's based on reasonable pricing.... 50 dollars / mbit
jcroom
Yes, but you are talking about for a pool of providers for your b/w if he is looking for just one provider should be a lot less then that.
iLight
I have my provider and I have 100mbps per server =)
laurens
most host's gives 100mbps but it's on an shared port so, could be that you get 20mbps but mostly lower then 30mbps
ptadmin
iLight unless your dropping over $3000 a month you dont truly have a 100 mbps connection to one server sorry to tell ya. maybe $2000 a month if the bandwidth provider has a really cheap high commitment plan. I'd have to disagree with that, having experienced 100 mbs inbound a couple times from a DOS attacks until nulrouted. And having a server mistake result in one of my servers bursting 98 mbps outbound for about 12 minuets I'm quite certian my machines are truly on 100 mbps lines and I am not paying anywhere near those figures. iLight
Why should I lie? I have 100mbps guaranted on my server to internet, and I have 1gbps server to server.
studeggle
Who is your host? Depends on location, in CO I use together network, in TX databank, and Chicago is colocrossing. Never had a test of my connection through colocrossing come up.
ECF
The Planet sells servers with 100 mbit connections for about $399 and up.
jbiloh
To clear the air: All machines on the ColoCrossing network are connected via either 100 or 1000 Mbit *dedicated* links to our distribution layer. There is no over subscription. If the destination (the other server) you're downloading/uploading to fis fast enough you'll have no problem pegging your port speed. The only difference between 95th and GB based commits are the way the bandwidth you use is billed. At least that's true at ColoCrossing.
