SickPuppy
I don't think it is as much the site as it is the Host. We have been having connection issues for some time now. As soon as this hosting contract is over we are going to move the site. I removed the flash and banners last night as a test and some people were still loading slow. I think the Hosting company is overloading the MySql server.
ECF
The host seems to be problem from this end as well. The site loads fine once the connection is made, but the actual time it takes to connect to your URL is slow. If you have all these servers why are you not hosting your own site? ECF
Could be that when he started that he did not have the capital or space to put his website?.... Shared hosting is not bad unless you get a poor host. Then you can have some issues.

SickPuppy
If you have all these servers why are you not hosting your own site? Simple, game servers are used to host games, we don't load down our servers with VOIP or web hosting. The servers we have are 100% dedicated to games. We have servers available that we could dedicated to web hosting and we will as soon as our current web hosting contract is over. Using a web hosting company is cheaper than running a dedicated servers for one website.

Shared hosting is not bad unless you get a poor host. Then you can have some issues. The capital is not the issue although you should know by now that I am a tightwad. We have had this shared hosting account for over 5 years and it has not been an issue until just the past 6 months.
SickPuppy
The footer logo is still way too big even if you have cookies enabled if you have the psd you can shrink it down quite a bit. that image shouldn't really be more than 40kb and your about 10x+ that. When designing your site you still have to keep in mind some people are still on 256k,512k,1mb internet speeds which will make your site seem to load real slow for them, which is not a good thing for seo. my 2 and a half cents again..... Normally I would agree but in the gaming industry not too many players on a 256k or 512k connection and if they are then they are not the target market segment we are concentrating on. The new website has caused our SEO ranking for game servers to jump over 100 places just in the past week. Yes it is still low, but at this rate I expect to have a top 10 next month. We have had this shared hosting account for over 5 years and it has not been an issue until just the past 6 months. LOL! Tightwad At least you are honest. I know we are getting a bit off topic but Jon brought up a good point about shared hosting and storing customer info on it. Just think of the amount of websites on that shared server and the possibility of 1 of them running a script with a security hole in it. They could actually root the server (we have had the misfortune of this happening to us on our old linux box...) and all that client info is there for the pickings. I am glad to hear you are moving your site to a dedicated box. I think that is a good move securitywise. And I am sure your performance issues will also be solved. I know we are getting a bit off topic but Jon brought up a good point about shared hosting and storing customer info on it. We considered the security risk that is why we do not store or collect any Credit Card or other personal information. The only thing that a hacker could gain access to would be the customer's name and address. Nothing that isn't already published all over the internet. SickPuppy
It literally took 10 seconds for it to load for me. I'd seriously recommend taking the advice to fix that up. Also, once they enter the gameservers pages or any product pages, there is no way for them to get back to the home page or to Live Chat if they have a question. I'd recommend putting in a nav bar. Working on the slow load issue. I have to create a new navigation bar for the products page, should have it done soon. Reworked the game server flash to match the current color scheme. lpgservers
Site itself takes only about 5 seconds now but then it keeps filling in images for about 10 more seconds. Are you hotlinking images at all or do they all reside within the site itself? Too lazy to check and easier to ask.

SickPuppy
It's a Host issue, if I call and complain it will run fine for a few days and then go right back to loading slow. We are having some shopping cart work done this week as soon as it is complete I am moving everything to our file server. We will keep the hosted site as a backup just in case something happens to the file server.
