kalyse
Hi, I was wondering if anyone is able to host the files required to run a FarCry server. I cannot find the files needed anywhere. Thanks for any assistance.
ECF
You need a copy of the Game. Install, zip and upload to your server.
GameConnectors
The Farcry gamefiles are around 3Gb, so you would definately be better off buying the game. You will also need to download and install the patches 1.3 and 1.33 Good luck
kalyse
Yeah I have the patch, Okay I supose I can just buy it next time Im in town. I still have to upload it all on my 20Kb upload home computer to my servers how immense
ECF
You may want to call your datacenter as well. Most will pop the CD in the drive on the server for little or no charge. Then you could simply install it there. Just a thought...

MaxXx
what is fast and usefull often aswell is http://www.direct2drive.com They offer Far Cry for Download, totally legal of course. and with their highspeed servers you got it really fast.
warp3
What happened to the good old 'get in the car and drive to the dc' option ? (or are we spoiled ? We're just 20 minutes away from the DC.. or 12.5 minutes without checking for the highway police.....)
ECF
Many people rent dedicated server rather than co-loing them. Therefore they do not have physical access to the servers at the DC.
kalyse
I am 400 miles away from the DC. I dont have dedicated..
GameConnectors
I think its important to have a certain level of access, colo or dedi or whatever. Always worth paying a bit extra for business broadband so you can up your upload speeds aswell.
ECF
I agree with the upload speeds. Currently I have Cable internet at home. The download speed is great (10mbps) but the upload is very slow. They advertise 512k upload, but I am lucky to hit 56k while uploading anything. Business cable in the US has just become common. Pricing is about +$30 more than regular home cable, making it look attractive for me. There of course is DSL as well.
kalyse
You were right. Direct2Drive was nice and quick. Downloaded the full game in 9minutes flat. The full 2.6GB
kalyse
Hi all. Can anyone help me. I have successfully installed the game fine, however when I come to install the Version 1.3 Patch I get the following error message. Image: http://www.chrisacky.com/error.jpg Can anyone help? I dont know why I get it. I have google it but with little success.
ECF
I know that sometimes games from Direct2Drive require patches directly from Direct2Drive. The regular patches downloaded from elsewhere may not work on them. Other than that, I would have no clue.
MaxXx
true, check for updates from direct2drive or fileplanet may work as well since its all one Network. In any other way contact their support, that is fast too.
GameConnectors
Yeah, it appears that D2D use tansform files which basically allow a kind of custom installation. As ECF said, I would definatley go back to D2D for the patches.
kalyse
The patches arent there. There is no installation for them. However when I look at the splash screen forthe actual game is says Patch 3.3 on it. Does thatmean I have installed thegame already patched? Also when you purchase the game from D2D it says Version: 3.3 does that mean that its already patched? Thanks I hope so
GameConnectors
Certainly sounds like it, and it would make sense as to why they have used a custom install. Try firing it up from the TCA config and see what happens.
kalyse
I think it is working. I have seen the server in TCAdmin Proccesses saying it is running serveral times before and It has not actually been. I donnt have the game installed on any of my home computers to check. How can i actually confirm short of asking someone? The IP is: 87.117.224.200:49001 Thanks
GameConnectors
Look in ASE or Xfire. Alternatively the best way to tell is to go into 'Server Status and Administration'. If you get a result then the server is up, if you get 'No Results' then you have a problem.
kalyse
I cant add a game server to Xfire unless I have thegame installed In the Server Admin it says the server has 0 / 16 players connected. Maybeit is running
MaxXx
HLSW, it should slowly be known here too ^^,...you can check nearly every game and even administrate it by rcon, but not too sure if for far cry too,...but i guess it is. http://www.hlsw.net is the english site http://www.hlsw.de is the german site
kalyse
HI all I have gotten it working however OMG, what is the point of running a Farcry server? I mean running Farcry 16 Man, should mean that it has to be a dedicated server. Is it me or is this just unreal?? I dont play Farcry so im not sure how to properly configure it, I only know basic commands. Is there something like Tickrate as with CSS that will lower the CPU usage because I cant host it like this. The server Im running it on is Dual 3.0ghz Xeons with 2mb cache each, See image below:
