Alternatives regarding MySql?

Greetings!

I'm needing to start thinking about replacing my DB server that I'm using for TCA, and I was wondering if anyone here has played around with either Percona or MariaDB as alternatives to Mysql?

While it isn't an absolute requirement to move to these alternatives, and obviously Mysql is still readily available and usable and familiar, It was a topic of discussion that came up with one of the developers in another department.

Anyone played with either of them in conjunction with TCA?

Percona - http://www.percona.com/

MariaDB - https://mariadb.org/

I played around a bit with Percona here yesterday - both MariaDB and Percona are supposidly drop-in replacements, and indeed, once Percona is on, from my perspective, it appears identical - even console / shell / commandline parameters are identical. I did a restore from a recent TCA backup into a test environment with no problems so far...

Should actually sign up for a trial license and try it on a closed test- environment

Interesting. Is the setup the same as MySQL? Install Maria and then pass TCAdmin setup the credentials? Or do you have to convert the MySQL DB to Maria DB format?

We use Maria. Just create a user and password and let TCA login an do its thing. IP restrict user access etc..
