GameSpy's master servers are shutting down May 31, 2014

Important notice: effective May 31, 2014, Gamespy will cease providing all hosted services for all games.

 

This is going to affect multiplayer in our games that use Gamespy for matchmaking, cd keys authentification and NAT traversal from Arma: Resistance to Arma 3. We are planning to introduce an alternative solution using Steam to Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead and Arma 3 users.

 

Other games (Take On Helicopters, Arma 2, Arma 2: Free, Arma, Arma: Cold War Assault) will have more limited multiplayer experience with loss of server browser, cd key authentification and NAT traversal systems. That said, direct IP connection to servers should work even after Gamespy services are no longer available.

 

We apologize for any inconvenience.

We can still host them. Games in that list(that list is inaccurate btw) will just have an empty browser. The servers however can be joined via direct IP and port.

you get less players on your server and less people that want to rent a game server

Weblinks can be embedded into webpages which launch the game and connect to a certain IP.

 

Something similar to the STEAM method here: steam://connect/1.0.0.27:27015

Where steam would be swapped for your game.

The steam method is simply an example. It may be different per each game.

 

I have another idea as well but might end up implementing it myself with some others to offer players an alternative method to display and join servers.

It looks like many game makers will be going with in-house solutions when GS shuts down.

There may be a hit at the beginning but I think game makers will patch fairly quickly so they do not lose sales in the PC game market.

Yes. I am sure that the older titles will not go through the trouble of making in game server browsers.

SWAT4 ingame server list it has already been solved by markmods.

 

As we don't know what is going to happen with this games you can use this to patch the game client and server files to test a new server list and be ready for that day. By now supports only this games:

 

Call of Duty

Call of Duty United Offensive

Call of Duty 2

Quake 3 Arena

Star Wars Jedi Knight 2

Star Wars Jedi Academy

CoD2 server needs an extra change to work, i'll upload it later.

 

EDIT:

Server side patch for CoD2 uploaded.

 

Instructions:

- copy MP .exe file next to lpatch.exe

- launch lpatch.exe

- select .lpatch file

- select MP.exe file

 

This needs to be done to client and server MP .exe file of each game.
