Brandon
When transferring between two machines on the same private switch the fastest speed I receive is 35mbps. When transferring files through HTTP on the same network I am able to get 98-100mbps. Is there a global speed limit for FTP that I am not aware of? I've tested on 3 seperate networks and the same speed limit is applied. I see in the plugins FTP Manager. Max Download Speed: -1 KB/s (-1 = No limit) Max Upload Speed: -1 KB/s (-1 = No limit) But the fastest I can get anywhere is 35mbps Please advise. Brandon
Oh I see the buffer size is limiting the speed.. Well the highest buffer is 9999999 Bytes. This gives about 60mbps. Anyway the buffer can be increased or will that cause problems?
ECF
I would imagine it can go as high as you set it. I'll have to ask Luis what the speed limit is internally wihtin the FTP software. He might simply be able to add another placeholder or two in the ftp speed field sometime down the road.
Brandon
The highest buffer that can be set is: 9999999 Bytes And this increased the speed from 35mbps to aprox 55mbps. I'm not familiar with the FTP buffer settings or why it would be limited to a maximum of 9999999 Bytes. To get full 100mbps the buffer would need to be: 13107200 Bytes But in the box to edit the buffer it only allows 7 digits not 8. Thanks!
ECF
Since most poeple work with slower net speeds, when that feature was added, it was not even thought that users may reach speeds of 10 meg +. With the introduction of our internal networkig feature for FTP, it has allowed for higher network speeds. And with Gig type connections some people can pull even faster I will assume the FTP software will handle whatever number you throw at it. So it should just be a matter of adding a placeholder or two in that field. I will have to confirm with Luis about this though.
Brandon
Sounds good.
LFA
With the default buffer of 65536 you should be able to reach 100mbps. This is my master server while I did an FTP install. Each server is in a different DC at the planet. To get max speed you should use zip or rar. Transfering each file one by one it will never reach full speed since it's stopping and starting with each new file.
Brandon
The game files are in RAR format.
ECF
Compressed files is the only way to go unless you only have one server. Using the full folder over FTP will also produce timeouts and general failures as well.

Brandon
This might be a windows 2003 web edition or driver issue. I will investigate further. Thank you for letting me know that the FTP isn't limited globally. I will continue my testings.
Brandon
You can delete this thread if you want. After further testing - I am receiving faster speeds between a few different machines. So there must be something wrong with my current master servers. Thanks!
ECF
We would rather leave it as a reference to other users in case they were to have a similar issue
