wems324
I dont know what it is... but I have a dua 2.2ghz opteron processors with 3gb of ram and a 250gb i guess 5700rpm or whatever standard is harddrive running on windows 2003 server. Its hosted at http://www.softlayer.com. But when Im running a 100tick/550fps server, it seems to lag. I dont know why. Even when im running just 1 gameserver, people in the server seem to complain of lag. How could this be? and how could I start a GSP with this? im trying to run CSS, and im using the cal config files. I tried defragging yesterday by using defrag C: -v (or something like that) but pls help in optimizing my server so that it runs GREAaAAAAT. i mean hell i should be able to get alteast one badass server for the 250$/month im paying. Thanks, Charles
Todd Holley
lol! If you have a 5700 RPM hard drive, I suggest you request a refund from softlayer. . As far as I know, it should be 7200 rpm at least. I was with softlayer about 6 months ago. Try to turn the FPS down to like 300, you will have a far more stable server. And lag problems should stop. JasonF
Bad mods can easily lag a server out. Do you have any mods running?
KennyM
Are the rates correctly set on the server? rate 30000, cl_maxcmdrate 100, cl_mincmdrate 60, cl_maxupdaterate 100, cl_minupdaterate 60. We run about 6 550 FPS 100 tickrate servers on our Xeon 5130 and there are no issues..
wems324
The rates should all be set correctly, its the cal config im using. And I dont see why I shouldnt be able to run 100tick/600fps servers with no lag... I mean especially because this is the only one running at the moment. Someone told me that 2.2 ghz just wasnt powerful enough, and someone else said it had to do with the routing equipment... which I believe both to be wrong. Should i ask for a fresh install of windows on this machine? (even though its only like 1 week old). And were you satisifed with softlayer.com? why did you happen to switch? DougK94
What all un-needed processes do you have running? What optimizations have you done to the OS? Like doc asked a few post back, what all mods are running on the server?
wems324
only mod running is zblock... no OS optimizations, dont even know how to do that. I have srcdsfpsboost running and srcds dedicated server running. This is my first time hosting, could I ask for money back? or partial money back from softlayer.com? I mean the server does lag, when it shouldnt need to.
DougK94
I know nothing about the mod you are trying to run, but I do know that this server should have no problem running multiple games. You could have them check the server. Knowing Softlayer, i doubt if there is a problem with the server itself, but there always is that slight possibility. Most servers anywhere are deployed and set up for web hosting not game hosting. It is your responsibility to know and to optimize the OS to suit your needs for game hosting, the needs between the two are different. What is your CPU and memory usage like? What all unneeded service are running that do not need to be? What are you CPU and memory loads?.
ECF
Remove the zblock mod and run a stock server and see what you get. If the problem goes away then you know it is the mod, which it most likely is.
KennyM
Zblock shouldn't be causing any problems..It's a requirement to play in CAL, so the plugin is actually really good. I run it on my servers without any issues.
ECF
Well if you are 100% sure it is not the mod then go complain to Softlayer. Maybe you got a bad network card or RAM.
HIS-MOTHER
Zblock shouldn't be causing any problems.. But he has not tested it without the MOD to ensure it's not the issue. Further..... Alot of Tourney mods and or config do cause issues with servers wether you beleive it or not. CEVO for example along with the pbsv.cfg in COD4 and CEVO's anti cheat you have to run in addition to PB does cause some interference and they even acknowledge it. KennyM
I don't know about those games, but Zblock is a pretty polished up CS:S mod. I can almost 100% guarantee it's not Zblock causing the issue.

DougK94
Yes, it needs to be tested perfectly stock with default tickrate and no mods. Then if that is OK, add one thing at a time to find the problem.
NRTServers
Trust me...If the fellas here suggest you try something...try it and report back.. It might be a bad game install or like said above..setup for a webserver...I have learned a wealth of knowledge from the folks here!!
RackGaming
Another thing to check is if your running the TCA panel (Which I hope you are seing as your askingf or help here) is to turn off the stats gathering process. Located in system settings & look for the plugins. Everyone has said something correct regarding this issue. I have also experienced the same exact issue before however my fix which I found out on my own may not work for you but the main thing I done was requested new RAM at faster speeds to the max that the MOBO supports which ECC and FB-DIMMs. If the provider says no or trys to charge you very high than normal then quit with them and go with new provider. I would recommend us naturly but as we don't provide Dedicated Servers I would suggest (not recommend as I have never been with them) DefconServers.com based on the fact that all their servers are suited towards gaming.
