A long standing web hosting company is now offering 1 TB of HDD and unlimited bandwidth for $12.95/month. I refuse to post their name or URL because I don't want to encourage the behavior. That has to be the most over sold web hosting I have ever seen.

Webhosting is hugely oversold. It is a common practice in that business.

Yup and the QOS is usually about par for the price.

Overselling is definitely huge, though talking strictly disk storage - the big guys are using sneaky tricks like mod_bandwidth to be sure you don't really use it.

I use to resell through a very large webprovider, had over 300 clients on it...Recently bumped them all off, as it was to the point where there disc clusters were full, the pipes were full, everything took a crap 10 times a day and their support tickets would be answered 36 hours later when everything was okay saying 'Everything looks fine on our end' ...They offer these huge packages expecting nobody to use them and when some people start to they choke...

 

Simply put, I don't even worry about these guys...They'll put themselves out.

 

Very stupid! needless to say, not one of those clients is still on that hosting today...
