bryan
Well from what I have heard AOWC is slowly losing and moving the VSK boxes out of Cybercon in St. Louis because of the loss of business/customer base. I am in the same datacenter, in the room next to were VSK once was. And now AOWC is slowly taking servers out of there and is almost down to 1 rack from what I hear. VSK use to be 2-3 racks easy. HGN-Daniel
Alexa can be manipulated but its a good indicator of overall traffic trends on websites. But Pagerank is probably a little bit more useful since it takes more into account (domain age, incoming links, etc)
wbrightfl
Killerpings shut down without advance notice to me and I had 5 Ranked BF2 and 1 TS server with them. I just renewed 2 BF2 servers for 6 months last week. I just filed claims with Paypal to try to get my money back. According to one of their techs which is talking to me over email, their owners changed their phone numbers and stopped replying to emails. We used KP for the past 2 years and experienced high quality servers and low pings at a fair price. It's a shame to see this happen but they could have been man enough to tell their customers and offer refunds for those which paid in advance. Wes KP did approve all my paypal claims last night so all the servers which I had prepaid for I got my money back. The downside is those servers I had for 2 years and were well-established in the community. I have to begin over from scratch with new ips and build the population again. JasonF
MyInternetServices just lowered their prices close to kiddie GSP prices. Wonder if they are getting desperate.
ECF
No they are not desperate. They simply get aditional revenue streams from things other than renting gameservers.
wbrightfl
We tried one of MyInternetServices test BF2 servers out of New York last night and experienced lag and high pings. Not sure if they are on the high-quality end for hosting Ranked BF2.

Well I hope their total sites and advertising bring in a lot of dough because they are going to lose a lot of money selling game servers at those prices. Spartanfrog
Just curious why do you guys hate low priced game servers? And what do you think is a good priced server?
JasonF
Most people that offer low priced servers are trying to undercut competitors to gain market share will little regard for financial responsibility. They have no concept of money management and only care about gaining clients. When the servers start to fill up and they need to expand they realize that they are either losing money or breaking even on each server. They then either start overselling the servers to make up for the loss or just order more servers and build up more debt. Two thing will then happen, either the company will build up so much debt they close up or the clients suffer from the oversold dedicated servers. Either way it gives the profession a bad name. leetservers
Getting ready to get flamed but here I go... I know of ONE high priced GSP "GR" that went of of biz. And thats only because of a poorly executed longterm deal with thier BW provider. I can name 150 of low priced aka sub $2 a slot gsp's that died. KP being the latest victim of trying to compete with gameservers. My phone has been non-stop since yesterday with old KP customers wanting servers since the buyout. The kicker is they want me to match the KP price, LOL I'm like why do you think KP died? TOO CHEAP!! =Bobby

adamnp
All depends where you want *your* business to go. Everybody has different deals, contracts, and relationships that either help them or make them suffer. Dependent upon what you do in the business, and what area you are marketing to can greatly influence your results. You can easily make a shitload off of sub $3 priced servers, aswell as the above $3 pricerange. It's what you as a company hope to provide that determines what you should offer. Think of it as a Dollar store vs Sears.. Same principal. You get what you pay for normally, but some people are content with sub par for budget prices, and some are content with what profit they get from that. Decide where you would like to go, and do what you feel is best for you.
jbiloh
Has anyone confirmed what the real deal is over at Killerpings? They are obviously gone in some/all capacity, as we've seen a huge volume of orders today.
wbrightfl
I had 5 Ranked BF2 servers with KP and they shut down New Years Eve at midnight with no warning to us. I have the personal email address of one of their support guys and New Years Day he didn't even know what was going on. He said that the owner Alec, up and left, changed his phone number, shut everything down but didn't tell the staff. The staff had no idea they were shutting down. wbrightfl
We have all our dedicated clan servers with Velocity/Colocrossing and have never been happier. If they were an EA RSP we would have automatically moved our BF2 servers to them but you know EA, keeping the ranked monopoly thing going and not allowing many good hosts access to offer the ranks. Well, that's another subject. After reviewing prices, pings and talking to customers of several providers we went with Branzone to host our ranked BF2 servers. Hypernia was a close second but we heard that support can be very slow with them at times and we know that not to be true with Branzone. High quality performace and support reponse times is always a big factor for us. We purchased 5 Ranked BF2 Servers from Branzone last night and all 5 servers were active in less than an hour. Our pings to Chicago the same as they were with KP, very low. Kudos to Branzone.
Monk
EA is terrible. We've tried so many times to get a ranked license. They are totally useless. I would much rather have blizzard as a customer, they have around 30gigs of ATT transit for world of warcraft servers in san jose..
