antidelldude
I have a 100mb burstable line to my server. When someone clicks update, the steam update uses up to 100mb bursting sometimes. I want to limit the updater to only be able to use a few megs download when running because this causes people to time out from their servers at times. Any Ideas? JasonF
There has to be something else going on besides that. I have never had a problem with a STEAM update eating up an entire 100mbps network connection.
Todd Holley
Me either. It is normally around 25 percent allocation when I use it. The only thing I can figure is he in running more than 1 at a time.
antidelldude
I have bandwidth meter pro and I pay for 10 megs up and 10 megs down unmetered burstable. When I start steam update, my usage download goes from a few megs to 120 then to 60 then to 100 then to 80 and it just flies all over the place and at times everyone just times out from their servers because the download is over saturated. And yes I am really downloading that fast because I can fully download the 1.72 gigs of files to install tf2 in 8 minutes time.
adamnp
Anything that I can think of to do would limit your gameservers aswell...Which would not be good. I'm thinking
ECF
There are bandwidth limiters out there. However I am not sure that you could limit a certain process with them. If it becomes a huge problem, you may want to look at the batch update function in TCAdmin. But I think you may run into the same bandwidth problem with that unless you set the BW speed in the FTP plugin.

antidelldude
I was not aware something like this existed for windows. Thanks.
daggo
I have used netlimiter before on the game server and found it was causing lag spikes.
Raizio
He doesn't want to use it on his gameservers, but on steamcmd process
daggo
yes but in order to use it for steam cmd it has to be installed on the box. It monitors all traffic coming to and from the box wether its limited or not.
